Throat tight: If you have not taken anything would take 1- 2 puff of your inhaler. tea may help along with the inhaler as it has xanthines, a bronchodilator.. Also consider one Zyrtec (cetirizine) or benedryl. If not better in 15 minutes call 911 if you have already taken 2 puffs of the inahler call 911. f/u wtih urgent care /doc ...Read more

Various causes: Tightness in the throat area is a very general symptom that can occur in a variety of conditions. Certainly anxiety can cause this. Do you have any other symptoms associated with this? Did it come on suddenly or have you been experiencing this for awhile? Recommend consulting your doctor for further evaluation if it persists. Posssibly anxiety: You should get tested 4 allergies. Is it only certain foods? This is important for your md to know. If it is more general, or random, it may be anxiety. You r probably now anxious about it & anxiety feeds itself & makes itself worse. Once physical causes r ruled out, find a therapist specializing in anxiety, esp. Exposure based treatment. Yes, there's help: Anxiety can certainly cause the symptoms you mention, and there is help for this. See your primary care doctor to start with, for a thorough health evaluation. S/he may offer medications, or may want you to see a psychiatrist & therapist. Talk therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy are very helpful. Also, medications can help as well.
