Possible Problem: The symptoms you are describing are most typical for a stomach ulcer. They can also be seen with a hiatal hernia (extension of the stomach above the diaphragm) and with gastritis (inflammation of the stomach which can extend into the esophagus). I would recommend that you see your doctor soon, or go to the ER if symptoms get much worse. Antacids, prilosec, and Pepcid (famotidine) can help. ...Read more

Could be GERD.: This could very well be GERD. Do you feel it more after you eat certain foods? Or after large meals? Do you feel it more at night while lying down to sleep? A hiatal hernia may not show up on "scans", but would reveal itself in an EGD or barium swallow. ...Read more

I am having some tightness and pain in my sternum area. I used to be able to stretch and get it to pop out, but can't this time. What can I do?

Not a Heart Attack?: Nate, Hopefully this is not a heart attack. If you think it might be, then get to the hospital. If you are sure that it is not. Continue stretching, take an anti inflammation medication like Aspirin or motrin, given the location of the pain, I would suggest aspirin. You could try warm or cold compacts as well.
