Fit 21 yr old runner but tightness in sternum during lifting an overhead press? Cardiac stress or lifting too heavy?
Mild, brief pains in chest, shoulders, arms, neck and legs. Usually on the left. Tightness around sternum and collarbone on left side. Ekg was normal?

I have a tightness under my sternum. Comes with and without hungry pains. Gets better with food but comes on again with hunger pains later... Serious?
Possible Problem: The symptoms you are describing are most typical for a stomach ulcer. They can also be seen with a hiatal hernia (extension of the stomach above the diaphragm) and with gastritis (inflammation of the stomach which can extend into the esophagus). Not a Heart Attack?: Nate, Hopefully this is not a heart attack. If you think it might be, then get to the hospital. If you are sure that it is not. Continue stretching, take an anti inflammation medication like Aspirin or motrin, given the location of the pain, I would suggest aspirin. You could try warm or cold compacts as well.
