A clot: Is really RULED OUT by the Ultrasound but a "simple" strain/sprain should have resolved., You need to seea Board Certified ORTHOPEDIST who may wish to order an MRI to Rule OUT a Gastroc TEAR! Ask your PCP to refer you! Hope this helps! Dr Z Read more

Muscle (Definition)

Pain began in left calf. Has moved to thigh&still calf. Muscle spams & tightness. Pain not constant. No birth control. Checked for DVT x2.?

Leg pain: vascular?: Deep vein thromotic lesions are more serious but less common than superficial vein thrombi. Your "check for DVT x2 should have been via ultrasound tests (plethismography) to be certain there is not a deep vein clot. Superficial venous clots to move and can cause pain, but are less a concern. See your health care professional. Read more

Tightness in back of calf muscle and knee on right leg. Sometimes left. On anti-inflamitories and birth control. Could it be a blood clot. No swelling?

Tightness in back of calf muscle and knee on right leg. Sometimes left. On anti-inflamitories and birth control. Could it be a blood clot. No swelling?

Less likely: Blood clots are usually associated with some degree of swelling due to blood pooling caused by the clotted vein. Also, bilateral venous clotting is highly doubtful, so i'd look for another plausible explanation. Read more

I have swollen, tight feeling, calf muscle. How can I alleviate this pain?

Could be a spasthism: Muscle spasm as well as possible varicose vein are alleviated by taking anti-inflammatory medications and possibly using a warm moist wrap for 1-2 hours at a time. However, the best option for unremitting pain and swelling is to see your physician to rule out a blood clot in your deep leg veins/ dvt, as it could be a serious issue. Read more

Hi I have been experiencing right claf swelling mainly after I have alcohol- the calf muscle gets really tight and swells about 1/2"?

Hi I have been experiencing right claf swelling mainly after I have alcohol- the calf muscle gets really tight and swells about 1/2"?

Not Sure: Alcohol and isolated calf swelling are not a seen as far as I know. The most important thing to rule out is a blood clot in your leg, but usually that swelling is persistent and does not come and go. Varicose veins can cause swelling which may be the cause as if you you drink too much, your liver may swell and blood flow from legs may be impeded and cause the swelling, See your MD to confirm. Tight right calf muscle for @ 1 week. Worse with rest, seems tingling /burning/ itchy at night in bed. Not hot or discolored. Thoughts?

Calf discomfort: One possibility is congestion in the calf veins which builds up during the day's activity on your feet. Elevating the leg should relieve that discomfort, however. Irritability of calf nerves or muscles may be a cause. A blood clot in a calf vein usually is accompanied by swelling and tenderness. It's best to have a physician examine your leg and, if deemed advisable, get an ultrasound of the veins Read more

Why is my calf muscle in the back of my leg feeling sore or tight? I need some advice.

Rule out DVT: The most dangerous thing to rule out (assuming no trauma to the leg) is deep vein thrombosis, or blood clot. This is evaluated by doppler ultrasound. Once this is ruled out, then other more common, but non life-threatening musculoskeletal conditions can be evaluated. Read more

Do I have dvt? Calf muscle was randomly sore 3 days ago the soreness is gone but weird sensations linger. Tight, full, cold foot, pulsing.

Possibly: Sounds like it could be a DVT. Only an Ultrasound or venogram would be truly diagnostic. An Ultrasound would be easy and more appropriate as an initial test. Read more

I sprained my left calf muscle 14 weeks ago. By the end of the night, it is tight and a little swollen compared to the right one. I had an ultrasound done a month ago and no clots were present. What is causing this?

Different things: You sprained your ankle 14 weeks ago. That refers to the ankle joint not the calf muscle. You had an ultrasound to lookfor blood clots in the vein, not muscle. All of this is good information. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. Do you still have pain, limits in range of motion. Is there a knot in your calf? These are the next steps. Read more
