See dentist first: Who evaluated your pain? A general dentist, oral surgeon, neurologist or primary care MD? If no consults were done, start with the dentist. Is there a history of trauma to the area? There are many variables to be addressed, see a doctor of your choice ASAP. ...Read more

I have been recovering from a jaw injury, nothing broken or dislocated. I am getting pain and tightness in and around my chin. Is there any cause for needing urgent medical attention? No fever.

Need evaluation: After jaw injury, presumption is that jaw pain is related to injury, However for someone >60 yrs old with cardiac risk factors (eg high cholesterol, strong Fam history of heart disease) then further evaluation is warranted, Occasionally angina (heart pain) can present as jaw pain (not usually chin pain). If pain makes you short of breath, or if worse on exercise, see your doc immediately. ...Read more

I have had pain and tightness in my jaw, cheeks, chin, and at times in neck. Have had X-ray both at doctor and Dentist office. X-rays all show normal. Been going on for 4 months now. No improvement.

Could be serious: Jaw pain should never be taken lightly. It could be a symptom of an underlying problem like clenching or grinding the teeth, an infection coming from a tooth or the gums, or a non-dental problem. Did you know that one of the most common presentations of coronary artery disease/blockage is jaw pain, especially on the left side of the jaw. first see a Dentist to rule out Dental issues. ...Read more

Urgent vs emergent: Call 911 and have them take you to the emergency room. I am reading this 7 hrs after it was submitted, so don't know know how you are doing now. This could be meningitis. You need to be evaluated and treated ASAP. ...Read more
