I have tight upper back muscle. Haven't stretched in a long time.Always sitting down. I have indigestion quite a lot.Are these due to inactivity?
Hard to know: It's possible you're having some type of referred pain from your stomach or esophagus, going to your back; and at least 2 separate things could also be happening simultaneously. I am almost 2 years post op 2 level lumbar fusion. Low back pain has improved but still having issues with back muscle tightness/muscle fatigue. Exercise regularly, weights, walking, yoga. Advice?
Everything Right: It sounds like you are doing everything right. Surgery is traumatic to the spine and muscular tissue. There can be irreparable damage as as result. Overall, it sounds like surgery was a success because you have an active lifestyle. I would recommend a short course of physical therapy so they can discuss your goals and deficits you have. Bending: Stretching exercises that bend, extend and twist at the waist are good starters. Don't bounce when you stretch though. Stretch as far as you can, then hold that position for a count of thirty seconds, then try stretching farther two more times in the same directions. Stretch: Long term answer is low back strengthening through therapy and exercises, but if you are currently suffering you should start with rest. Take anti inflammatories, rest at least for 8 hours (sleep) and then perform stretching exercises to help take away your muscle spasms.
