My rt knee is bad also i, m having both legs are very tight, very sore ankles giving out feet throbbing. Trouble standing and walking. Both calves stiff?

Leg Problems: The question is always where to begin? I am a podiatrist, so we tend to look upwards from the feet. Make sure you are in very stable shoes and orthotics to support your ankles that feel like giving out. Stretch your calves 3 times daily as long as you do not cause pain. Have a back doctor see how to stabilize your spine. Ice 10 minutes three times daily any area that feels inflamed. Dr rich blake. Read more

My boyfriend got bit on his ankle and its swollen his ankle and foot and its tight he said. He got bit over 24 hrs ago?

INFORMATION: Cat. Bites are worse than dog bites, but both can become infected. Waiting longer than 12h can increase the chance of infection. Signs of infection include increasing pain, increasing redness, warmth, febrile, "hot", pain w/ motion, maybe an abscess. Simply put, he's getting worse instead of better. If so, consider your doctor if they are open this morning, or a trip to the ER Read more

Ankle swelling: There are many causes of ankle swelling. In older people and those with heart/lung problems, can be a sign of heart failure. In younger people it can be caused by venous insufficiency. Kidney problems can lead to low protein in the blood as a cause of swelling. Best to get an examination and testing by a doctor. Read more

What type of streches/exercises can I do to at home to stretch my 10 months old baby's Achilles tendon; ankles are very tight and never puts foot flat?

See doctor first: I would not advise doing any stretches on your baby's feet or ankles without first checking with the pediatrician, preferably a pediatric orthopedist or podiatrist. While stretching may be helpful, it can also cause problems such as subluxing joints or tearing or rupturing soft tissues (tendons, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels). Read more

I've had foot and ankle swelling and pain since last Thursday. I also have foot and calf tightness after I sleep or sit for a whileWhat could this be?

Depends: Swelling with redness can be due to inflammation or dependent. If you have not been moving much and have swelling and cramps in one leg- it can be a sign of blood clot. If it is swelling of both sides, and not redness- it could be as simple as dependent swelling that goes away by elevating legs on pillow. If it continues, painful, or have family or personal history of clot see Dr. Read more

Between the bottom of my foot and my ankle, it is very sore. What could be wrong? I just got new skates and they have been tight in that area. They havn't hurt this bad so I don't understand what's wrong.

There: There are several possibilities in this case. Heel pain per se could be plantar fasciitis. Pain on the back side of the foot could be some achilles tendinitis. Based on the description of pain with skates I believe that ill fitting skates are causing an achilles tendinitis. Some individuals have bony prominences in the area called haglud deformity that could put added pressure to the area. Try another sport! Read more

Calf locked up, now it's painful, tight, swells at ankle & foot, pain goes up to thigh all back leg pain & in bottom of foot, can't bend ankle, help?

Painfull: Calf spasms are painful. Usually they relax through weight bearing, gentle stretch, and heat before the ankle will "move". Naproxen is not the cure. Overuse (such as standing or walking in improper shoes) is the most common cause. If the pain in the back does not respond to heat, stretch and rest over the day after the calf problem relaxes, seek examination with a musculoskeletal physician. Read more

14 mos post-op ORIF trimalleolar fx am having swelling and tightness on top of ankle where foot bends. Have little pain. Have been recommended to have steroid injections under US guidance. Helpful?

14 mos post-op ORIF trimalleolar fx am having swelling and tightness on top of ankle where foot bends. Have little pain. Have been recommended to have steroid injections under US guidance. Helpful?

Choose carefully!: In my experience a good reason for injecting steroids into a joint or tendon region would be the presence of inflammation such as redness and warmth and swelling PARTICULARLY if there is pain that interferes with functioning. If you are having little to no pain when walking on your foot then what exactly is the purpose of reducing swelling if no major issues with weight bearing? Choose wisely! Read more

How important could it be for my mother to wear tight socks for her peripheral edema in her feet and ankles?

How important could it be for my mother to wear tight socks for her peripheral edema in her feet and ankles?

Prevention: If edema has been identified to where compression stockings have been recommended, then they should be used daily to help prevent complications related to edema. The proper sizing and fitting of those garments is very important for both comfort and to ensure that they are supplying the correct amount of recommended compression. Hose will control, not cure the edema--they must be used daily. Read more

Medicines: Swelling in your legs is very likely due to Amlodepine but there may be another contributing factor to your swelling specially in your face. This is Actos (pioglitazone) known for retaining fluid. You need to go back to your doctor to discuss these side effects known to occur in the 2 medicines you are taking. Read more

The outside of my foot feels sore/tight (Anterior and Inferiorly to the ankle), (could be the tendon/muscle.) Any idea what could it be?

The outside of my foot feels sore/tight (Anterior and Inferiorly to the ankle), (could be the tendon/muscle.) Any idea what could it be?

Sore foot: Ms. Pierce: with little details to work on, it is hard to say. Are you a runner? Any previous injury to foot? Does it feel like "pins and needles? " It could be a mild inflammation of the fascia, but hard to say. Try a few days of aspirin or Motrin. I always recommend warm heat pads for a few days to see if any benefit. If not, you might want to consult an orthopedic provider. Read more

Iron Level Fine Monday swelling legs plus feet including ankles skin feels very tight Tuesday my swelling is worse it hurts bruising easy Causes?

May be meds, fluids,: This seems like some sort of fluid overload, possibly from renal or hepatic challenge. The bruising could be from low platelets or blood clotting factors. It might be from some overall condition, but more likely it's due to the meds you're taking. The dose might have to be altered or the meds may need to be changed as they have serious side effects. A visit to the Dr. For blood work is needed. Read more
