Early ultrasound: When is your next scan? It is reassuring that a sac and yolk sac were both seen. A follow up ultrasound is appropriate. ...Read more
I am 4wks 2dys pregnant.I had an ultrasound & it says my gsd is 17mm with no fetal echo seen yet.Is this normal?
Probably not: 4 weeks 2 days pregnant essentially means that you just missed a period 2 days ago so generally on ultrasound you won't see anything. If there is truly a 17 mm sac with nothing in it at all by a vaginal scan, it is unfortunately not a good sign for a viable pregnancy. The whole story doesn't make sense, so i'd recommend that they continue to follow your lab work and ultrasound to see what happens. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
First ultrasound showed healthy fetus, second ultrasound no fetus or heartbeat. Did I have a miscarriage?
Exact answer needs .: Details and review of the images. Given what you describe, and assuming no mistake with the first ultrasound (meaning there was an embryo), then the lack of a viable embryo/fetus would mean a miscarriage during the interval. Please discuss with your ob/gyn. A blood test of the pregnancy hormone (HCG) can be performed twice a couple of days apart - if decreasing, would confirm pregnancy loss. ...Read more

I am 13w 5days pregnant and my todays scan showing nuchal thickness of 0.07cm. Is this abnormal? I am worried
Depends...: Need accurate terms and data. 13w5d is an appropriate time to measure 'nuchal translucency', but not the correct time to measure 'nuchal fold thickness' (measured later in pregnancy, 5mm or less is normal). If this was a translucency measurement, then 3mm or less is 'normal'. 3mm is 0.3cm. "0.07cm" is less than 1mm. 7mm would be increased, so see a perinatologist for repeat ultrasound. ...Read more
Active baby: Cord wraps are common & thought to arise commonly around 12 -15 weeks when there is more fluid to baby volume & the baby can turn & wrap themselves. There is no evidence that anyone is aware that this has happened. I've seen as many as 5 neck wraps and 3 true knots in the cord in babies that delivered ok & grew up to be normal. It can be a problem durin labor and some will lead to a c-section. ...Read more
If I have increased renal echogenicity in my kub ultrasound, do I already have renal parenchymal disease? Thank you. Pls. Explain. Please.
Need more info ...: Before you become more anxious. Yes, it is true that increased renal echogenicity on us can indicate medical renal disease. But - that imaging finding needs to be correlated with laboratory tests of renal function and review of other diseases and medicines the patient may have. Please see your doctor and ask about this finding. A consult with a nephrologist (kidney specialist) may be useful. ...Read more

Pregnant -GI trouble: Hyperemesis gravidarum is very bad N/V with pregnancy that leads to dehydration. I think you would 'know it' if you had that. Sounds like you're suffering from a mild-moderate gastroenteritis. Hopefully you can see your doc to make sure you're not getting dehydrated with the volume losses. Good to think of your baby. Keep the fluids going and eat a simple diet - chicken soup, rice, toast, etc. ...Read more

Bleeding source: If you are still fairly sexually active you may have some bleeding for 2-3 days after sex. Otherwise you may want to see if your doctor could schedule an ultrasound to see if you have a low lying placenta or placenta previa. If you are a smoker or drug user, it could be chronic placental abruption. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Nuchal Translucency : Nuchal Translucency is a screening test to determine risk of chromosome abnormalities in a fetus.
