I : I agree with the other doctor who wrote to you. It's important to talk with someone about this, because ticks are known to carry a number of infections, such as lyme disease, babesia, and other bacterias. Generally they are slow growing infections and the symptoms can sneak up on you, or come and go over time. It would be a good idea to discuss this with your parents or a doctor. They might decide to give you a few weeks of antibiotic treatment to prevent a chronic infection.

I got a tick bite over 3 years ago, why would it still be swollen and itch almost daily?

Tick bites: It is important to remove the tick as soon as it is noticed. Area of tick bite should be washed daily with soap and water. Yes: Get to the Urgent care closest to you or the ER. You do not want to wait on this one. At the least they can diagnose the problem and risks and offer treatment as appropriate. Always be on alert for deer tick bites -- easily treated early, but can be very debilitating if not treated. Good Luck -- Go. ...Read more

What should you do if a tick bites your penis?

Watch: Remove the tick if required by the right means. Report any fever or systemic illness to your physician with a note that you had a tick bite. Watch for reddening at the site especially if rings form -- this would be lyme disease. Don't let this mishap keep you from enjoying the outdoors but consider wearing some repellant. Good luck. ...Read more

10 days after tick bite. Bite healed but around it is a rash and is very red.

Bullseye rash?: It is common for the area immediately around the bite to be red, but if there is a clear area around that surrounded by a red ring that is a sure sign of Lyme. A single dose of doxycycline after 10 days would be worthless. ILADS (the association of Lyme specialists) recommends 200 mg of doxycycline 2x/day for 30 days. A tick bite can also cause Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia & other infections. ...Read more

Healing of tick bite extremely slow. Still, painful. Using Bactraban. Was bitten 4 weeks ago. Have been on antibiotics for 15 days after bite.

Discovered a rash 24-48 hours after a tick bite (size 10-15 cm). Doctor prescribed Penicillin for 10 days. No other symptoms. Is the prognosis good?

Likely: It all depends on how long the Tick was attached and if the rash was typical for erythema marginatum. Typically, if there is strong suspicion for tick disease the antibiotic used is Doxycycline, unless there is an allergy.
There is an excellent website at the CDC that reviews management. Blood work is always available to look for Lyme disease. ...Read more

Tick bite- turned black and itchy (5 days old). I pulled the tick out all the way, and there are no other symptoms or discoloration. Cause 4 concern?

MRSA is also a possibility. ...Read more

I have a tick bite that is 5 days old. It's mildly tender, mildly itchy and looks like a large mosquito bite. I'm not in a Lyme disease region.

Tick borne illnesses: Include many things besides just Lyme. However, most often, a local reaction to a tick bite is simply inflammation; an expanding, red area of tenderness can be cellulitis (a skin infection, often caused by staph bacteria). If it is worsening or you develop a fever, please seek medical attention for proper evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

Switched to doxycycline for possible rocky mountain spooted fever symtoms- tick bite was end of april. Is it to late if I start doxy 2mrrw for 10 days?

The big unknown: Doxy is best started per recommendations of the CDC and others within the first 5 days of infection. The benefits of delayed treatment in the post-acute stages are unclear. Not alot of literature or research that I've ever found on delayed treatment. The RMSF antibody titers may give your doctor some guidance. ...Read more

Just a thought: But the area between the toes COLLECTS DIRT like a MAGNET...clean the area daily with a soft Q TIP (Cotton swab) You may want to also swab withan OTC (Over the Counter) cortisone cream! Try this for a week-10 days .if this does not resolve your problem you need a "hand on" examination ....start with your PCP or Family Physician!

See DR: Tiny tick= risk for Lyme disease. You have a local reaction to the tick. There is good evidence for using a single dose of antibiotic, typically 200mg Doxycycline (I prefer minocycline) within 48 hrs after discovery of a deer tick to prevent Lyme. You need to be alert and ready for possible Lyme during the next 3 weeks. Unfortunately the blood tests are not reliable and sometimes the primary erytm ...Read more

Let me help: A small, red bump may appear at the site of the tick bite. This small bump is normal after a tick bite and doesn't indicate lyme disease. However, over the next few days, the redness may expand forming a rash in a bull's-eye pattern, with a red outer ring surrounding a clear area. ...Read more

Black text are about 4 mm across or bigger and deer ticks or brown ticks about 3 mm across.
