Doctor insights on:
Thyroxine is a thyroid agent. Nutritional or metabolic agent.
Not much: Thyroid hormones like thyroxine float around partly bound to proteins and partly "free". Only the free portion is active. In someone with a normal thyroid, the more protein that is present, the more thyroxine gets stuck, the more thyroxine produced so that the free portion stays normal. So the total goes up, but the free thyroxine is normal. Pregnancy and birth control can make the protein go up. ...Read more

Yes it may be: It depends on why you were taking it. If you have complete hypothyroidism from thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment, then you need to re-start. My wife been diagonsed with hypothyroidism. She has been prescribed for sodium thyroxine. We are looking for that medicine from vegetarian source?
It is vegetarian:
All sodium levothyroxine is derived from vegetarian sources so no need to look any further. The only animal-derived thryoid medicines are thyroid glandular extracts like Armour Thyroid and nature-throid.
Most who are hypothyroid also benefit from liothyronine, which is also vegetarian- see http://thyroid. About. Com/od/t3treatment/tp/t4-t3-thyroid-treatment. Htm &

When TSH is low: People who take thyroxine for simple hypothyroidism should have normal TSH to be safe. They should not loose weight, unless their prior weight gain was due to hypothyroidism. Taking too much thyroxine can cause atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis. On the other hand people with thyroid cancer are sometimes given a slight excess of thyroxine to prevent the cancer from returning. ...Read more
Stick with one: Thyroxine sodium and levothyroxine are simply different forms of generic "synthroid". Neither is better than the other. Whichever form you take, stick with it. The bioavailability of each thyroid preparation is a little different. If you switch from one form to another, your thyroid numbers may change, and you may start to feel hypo or hyper. Sometimes pharmacists switch you to save $. ...Read more
Just got a call from my gp if I am still alive? My TSH is 124 & T4 at 7. Is it life threatening? I started Synthroid (thyroxine) 100mg for last 3 days. Stressed!
TSH: First make sure hat your decimals are correct. The very high TSH indicates that you have low thyroid function either primary or secondary. Follow up with antibodies and listen to your doctor. You will be ok when it is all balanced. ...Read more
Rash: In general, it's a very safe drug. Possible side effect is a rash, caused by the dye used to make the pill color. When this happens, it's recommend to use the white pill to see if the rash goes away. The white pill contain no dyes. If the rash goes away, then it's likely the dye. Other side effects: if use too much: fast heartbeats, shaking, nervousness, diarrhea, headache, insomnia, hair loss. ...Read more
Is it safe to do herbal cleanses using supplements if you're taking meds like Synthroid (thyroxine) and SSRI meds? Or will it flush meds out of yr system?
The road to health..: ...does NOT lead through your rectum. Colon cleansing can cause vomiting, electrolyte imbalance, dehydration, jaundice & kidney failure. It was discredited a century ago. It may sound appealing but there is NO scientific evidence for it. None. Claims that toxins in your GI tract cause health problems eg arthritis, allergies, asthma are nonsense. Arm yourself with knowledge, not outdated claptrap. ...Read more

Does 800 mg twice a day of pure green coffee extract interact negatively with synthroid (thyroxine)?
Unknown: It is best to take synthroid (thyroxine) by itself on an empty stomach and wait at least 40 min before eating. Taking supplements at the same time can affect the absorption of synthroid (thyroxine). I can find no studies that have examined green coffee extract on thyroid hormone absorption. If thyroid levels change while taking the extract it means that it is probably affecting the absorption. ...Read more

In a perfect world: You would take your synthroid (thyroxine) an hour or two prior to your adderall. Can I mix apple/grape juice with prune juice within a 6 hour period? I take toprol (metoprolol) and Synthroid daily.
Am on thyroxine for many years was keeping low TSH generally below. 5 and was feeling great till I got into lots of skipped beats. Have now beem advisd to keep TSH above 1.5 feel bloated. But is it?
Is it what?:
Not sure what your question is but while too much thyroid can cause a fast heart rate it doesn't tend to cause skipped beats. I don't believe in keeping TSH above 1.5. The best dose is the one that helps you feel best as long as T3 (liothyronine) & T4 aren't too high. Skipped beats may be from low magnesium. Hawthore & taurine may help too. See
