Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) info: Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) is a trade name for a t4/t3 combination form of thyroid hormone. While T4 gives a smooth onset of action which can take several weeks to stabilize, the T3 component gives a rapid and unnecessarily brief rise in T3 levels. This discordant effect can cause side effects and make thyroid blood tests difficult to interpret. There is no proven benefit to using this type of thyroid hormone. ...Read more

Thyroid Hormone: Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) is a pill with both T4 and T3 thyroid hormone in it. Thyroid hormone is used to treat people who make too little or no thyroid hormone due to an underactive gland or past history of thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment for an overactive thyroid gland. Many people, especially those with weight problems to begin with, find that taking too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain just as easily as taking too little thyroid hormone.
