Can scar tissue after thyroidectomy appear 5 years later?

Scar tissue?: Scar tissue typically forms and reforms for the first 12-18 months after any surgery. If scar tissue continues to grow after that in may be something else - keloid, lymph nodes, etc. Or in the case of thyroidectomy you may have thyroid tissue that has begun growing again in that area. Usually nothing: Post surgical scars and trauma scars can usually do well on there own. There are many products that claim to help, but there is little proof. That being said, many feel they can help. Go to the first aid aisle at any pharmacy. Always remember to not get too much sun exposure on the incision for that first year after surgery (sunscreen). Likely nerves: This is likely due to the recovery of sensory cutaneous nerves from the cervical plexus that may have been compressed or injured during he incision. For the most part these will recover with very little sequelae. Hypersenstitivuty is common in any early wound.
