Possibly.: If you can't take thyroid meds, surgery or radioactive iodine ablation are useful. In fact radioactive iodine ablation is effective, with 40-70% of patients becoming hypothyroid after its administration. You might want to just observe since your T4 and your TSH are only slightly high and low respectively, and you might still have normal function. It would be best to see your doctor to decide. ...Read more

Your low: thyroid levels are much more likely due to your prior thyroid surgery. Check w/your doctor and begin BRAND NAME T4 replacement up to a level that normalizes your lab values. ...Read more

TSH levels: Total thyroidectomy means you have to be on replacementdepending on reason for resection if benign maintain TSH 1 to 3 if malignant over treated with TSH below 0.1 or so check TSH every 2 months to adjust dose generally you should not experience any symptoms. ...Read more

Not an issue for: Self treatment. Why did you have hemi-thyroidectomy? Please consult with your doctor rather than trying to adjust the medication on your own. There may be reason to let you go into hypo-thyroid state, depending on the pathology that called for resection of the thyroid. ...Read more
