Too much and yet....: Not enough info. Labs must be interpreted in light of your clinical situation. Your thyroid appears normal. Your red blood cells are uniformly and mildly enlarged. This may be that you had B12 deficiency and recently started B12. There are some red cells in your urine and some in your stool? These need explanation. See the doc who ordered these. ...Read more

Triiodothyronine : 0.76 ng/ml; thyroxine : 5.27 ; thyroid stimulating hormone : 1.15. Is this normal?

Triiodothyronine : 0.76 ng/ml; thyroxine : 5.27 ; thyroid stimulating hormone : 1.15. Is this normal?

Probably: In interpreting thyroid hormone levels, you have to consider several things: What is the clinical situation at the time of the lab draw- as stress, medications, even pregnancy can all effect the levels and what they should be. Every lab also has a slightly different 'normal' range depending on how they measure the hormone. Seeing the trend also helps - Are they stable, going up or down? ...Read more

4-21-14 Thyroidectomy r/t thyroiditis, goiter. On Synthroid (thyroxine) 137 mcg- hypo s/s returning have felt great for months. Would adding Cytomel help?

Not specific: The signs & symptoms of hypothyroidism are not specific for hypothyroidism (not a single one). Recheck your thyroid labs. If they're normal, your symptoms are due to something else. Having said that, I'm happy to do a trial of Cytomel with the Synthroid (thyroxine) in patients who want to try as long as I don't make them hyperthyroid. Some people report feeling better with comparable labs taking a little T3. ...Read more

High blood pressure 160 /100 my age 29 y.Test show hi level of triglycerides , hi level (ldl) low level( hdl) been a year on healthy diet lose 10 kg?

High blood pressure 160 /100 my age 29 y.Test show hi level of triglycerides , hi level (ldl) low level( hdl) been a year on healthy diet lose 10 kg?

Keep going : The current weight is not provided, but if not at ideal body weight, further weight will likely help. Weight and diet are two pieces of the puzzle. Environmental factors and genetics predisposition are others. Blood pressure of 160/100 is hi for a 29 year old and most would start blood pressure medications at this point. Great job on the < 20 pounds weight loss. ...Read more

How will a radioactive iodine uptake test diagnose goiter?

How will a radioactive iodine uptake test diagnose goiter?

It will not: An i131 test does not "diagnose" goiter. Goiter is just a term meaning an enlarged and/or nodular thyroid. An i131 scan is a "fucntional" scan. It is used to determine if a nodule within the thyroid is "hot" - picks up a lot of iodine: hyper-metabolic. A "cold" nodule does not concentrate the iodine: hypometabolic. There is a lower risk of thyroid cancer in "hot" nodules. ...Read more

No: The diagnosis of PBC is made through liver biopsy. The other best tool is the biliruben. Taken together they give a diagnosis and prognosis for survival. As you know PBC is though to be an auto immune disease. ...Read more

Endocrinologist says my thyroid 2 low. Tsh-3gen 6.30 FTI 2.4 TotT4 8.8 T-uptake 27.8 wants to increase meds. I have no T gland. No symp. What's low?

Thyroid hormone.: We all need thyroid hormones for proper health. If you had your thyroid removed, you will have to take thyroid replacement meds for the rest of your life. If you are taking them, the level has to be monitored to be sure you are getting enough for your body to function normally. If your level is low, the medicine is increased and the level is rechecked regularly to make sure it is stays normal ...Read more

Cardiac profile test ck-mb 17; ck 182; trop-t negative, lipid profile test total cholesterol 249mg/dl; triglyceride 169 ;hdlc 30; LDL 185 ;vldl 34?

Nasty: You have an elevated LDL (bad cholesterol) and low HDL (good cholesterol) - you need a life style adjustment as these place you at increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Attain and maintain normal weight. Daily exercise. Vegetarian or mediterranean diet. No smoking. I'd also bump up the atorin to 40 or 80 mg. ...Read more
