Just had a blood test that showed Thyroid level: T4 1.9 TSH 0.07. Have appt. With endo in 3 weeks am very worried. What does this mean? Graves disease
Hyperthyroid: It appears that your FT4 is high, and TSH low, which indicates hyperthyroidism. And it appears you have symptoms (palpitations? Sweating? tremor?). Graves disease is the most likely cause. Don't worry. This can be controlled and treated, usually starting with medications (eg. methimazole, b-blocker) and then you should discuss radioactive iodine with your endocrinologist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

We have case, femal patien, age 60 years, the TSH less than 0.05 while T4 in normal range, and she has not any symptom of thyroidism, is it ok?
Subclinical hyperthy: A low TSH with a normal T4 and no symptoms is usually subclinical hyperthyroidism. She may have a multinodular goiter that is autonomously functioning, or very early graves disease. A T3 (liothyronine) level and free T4 level should be checked. There is a higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation despite the normal T4 level, but many endocrinologists would just follow her levels for progression. ...Read more

My baby had a thyroid test at 2 weeks. .. his t4 levels r 9.06 slightly below normal and tsh levels r normal. Is it something concerning?
No: There can be quite a bit of variation in free t4 levels in the first month of life, but values of t4 below 7.0 with TSH over 40 are highly suggestive of congenital hypothyroidism, which requires thyroid intervention to provide normal mental and physical growth. Your infants values are well above that. Close monitoring of growth should be reassuring, but your doctor may choose to repeat values. ...Read more

My thyroid levels were checked just recent and my TSH was 2.08 and my T4 was 14. Could this be causing the anxiety feeling? What is protocol?
TBG: Total T4 isn't a very useful test. Any female taking birth control pills, for example, could have an elevated T4 because thyroid binding globulin might increase. A free T4 would be much more helpful. With a normal tsh, it isn't likely that you're hyperthyroid. Elevations in thyroid hormone levels should suppress TSH in people with primary hyperthyroidism. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
