Hand numbness: Could be two separate issues. Hand numbness could be carpal tunnel syndrome and chest pain could be costochondritis (like arthritis). Spine problems or other problems at the junction of the chest and neck could theoretically cause both symptoms, but less likely. Carpal tunnel?: Your hand numbness might be carpal tunnel syndrome. Use of a wrist/hand brace at night when you sleep may help. This : This is a very concerning state. First, have you changed or started any medications lateley? Have you had any other symptoms, like fevers, chills, having the light bother your eyes, or a stiff neck? It sounds like either myelopathy (spinal cord dysfunction), a mild meningitis (inflammation or infection of the covering of the nervous system), or neuropathy (nerve dysfunction) and you should probably have an MRI of your cervical spine (the spine in your neck) and brain. If those are normal, you should have a very thorough evaluation by your neurologist, as there are a number of conditions that can cause those symptoms. This is not a condition i would move slowly on. Best of luck, i would also (given the serious nature of your symptoms) consider looking into seeing a neurologist or neurosurgeon at a major teaching hospital in a major city to make sure you get the most advanced care available. ...Read more

For 2-3 weeks i've had neck, shoulders, and back pains. Loss of appetite.  Fatigue. Hand numbness and tingling. Depression.  What causes these symptom?

Rule out med illness: You should first get a physicalexam to rule out any medical illness that might be contributing to how you're feeling. There are various illnesses such as vitamin deficiencies thyroid disease and sleep apnea that can cause what you're feeling. Lyme's disease is another possibility. Depression makes you feel very tired and fatigued both physically and mentally. You can develop aches and pains in virtually any part of your body. With depression you feel helpless hopeless worthless and guilty. Energy and motivation are low. There is a distinct lack of ability to enjoy things and a tendency to withdraw socially. You can either have an increased or decreased appetite and insomnia or increased sleepiness. You can also have both. If you are feeling this way please see your doctor, then a therapist, and if necessary a psychiatrist for medication management. Do not forget to watch your diet, exercise, and seek out other ways of treating your depression from an alternative medicine or complementary medicine point of view. Yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and finding your spiritual center can all be important ways to overcome depression. ...Read more
