I started getting an eye twitch in the eyelid of my right eye just over 3 weeks ago. What can be causing this?
Why does the upper eyelid of my right eye twitch? Happens maybe 1 or 2 times day but not everyday.
Cause is unknown: Trembling of an eyelid, which happens in normal people, is called myokymia (an involuntary, spontaneous, quivering of a few muscle cell bundles within a muscle). Myokymia starts and stops spontaneously. In the eyelids, it can last a few minutes to a few days. One should see an ophthalmologist (md eye doctor) if such symptoms persist, keep recurring, or are combined with any other symptoms. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Fluttering/twitching in upper left abdomen. No pain, similar to an eye twitch. Should I be concerned?
Cramps and vibration: The feelings of twitching is usually caused by small muscle contractions and relaxations just as in the eye. Often too small to see. That is very similar to a cramp which is the same thing but it keeps recruiting other muscle cells to contract and not relax. Try stretching your arms over your head and take deep breaths to stretch it out. You probably had minor injury which will heal. ...Read more

Right eyelid twitching started last Aug. and persisted for more than a month. Later on dry-eye symptoms such as foreign body sensation, grittiness and ocular pain both eyes. The grittiness got worse when I woke up at night, why? It is so irritating.
Common problem: Eyelid twitching (myokymia) is a common and largely unexplained problem. It usually goes away on its own but sometimes this takes 3-4 weeks.
