Why can ssris (and similar medications) be considered non-addictive, yet can cause major withdrawal symptoms?

A Paxil (paroxetine) no-no: Paxil (paroxetine) should not be abruptly stopped. He should return to the prescribing physician and let him know what is happening and his doctor will want to know why he stopped it. It can cause a number of side effects such as weight gain and sexual side effects. At any rate, encourage your son to see his doctor. If his family doctor prescribed, perhaps aa psychiatric consult would help given the anger. Read more

Hope you're better: OK. It's best to work w/ a Dr on the taper. That said, if you absolutely can't - as slow as possible is safest. Some say a drop of 10%/mth is great. With liquid cipralex you can do that. Otherwise, breaking tablets is ok but not easy. Best w/ help - Dr - or druggist - or as slow as you can. Glad it was short. Hope it was sweet! Read more
