My thyroid levels are normal but my thyroid gland fluctuates in swelling. Have a list of symptoms and cysts on my thyroid. What could be causing this?

Common: Small cysts and nodules of the thyroid are common in the population, especially in women. As long as they are small, they have no clinical significance and can be followed. It is unlikely that your thyroid fluctuates much in size from day to day or even week to week. Sometimes people have a feeling in their neck or a fat pad that appears to change, but it is not their thyroid. ...Read more

I have all the symptoms of thyroid problems but my tests come back normal. Saw my gynecologist and she found cysts? Could that be why I feel sluggish?

I have all the symptoms of thyroid problems but my tests come back normal. Saw my gynecologist and she found cysts? Could that be why I feel sluggish?

Definitely!: Most doctors rely on TSH alone to assess thyroid. If you have cysts/nodules...you need a full work-up including ultrasound (if not already done), TSH, free T4, free T3, (liothyronine) Reverse T3, (liothyronine) Thyroglobulin and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies, SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), ferritin levels, selenium, and iodine levels. You may have a hidden autoimmune disorder known as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. ...Read more

I have a 3mm thyroid nodule (cyst). Labs are normal. I still have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Doc says to come back in 6 months. Help.

Doc is correct: A 3 mm thyroid cyst has no clinical significance. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are nonspecific and generally common in the population (especially fatigue and weight gain). If your thyroid levels are normal, there is likely a different cause for your symptoms. ...Read more

An ultrasound of my thyroid showed enlargement and cysts on both sides, I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism but my blood tests were normal ?

No surprise: Symtoms of hypothyroidism are nonspecific, with normal T4 T3 (liothyronine) TSH ruling out thyroid as cause. Look for another cause for your symptoms. Nodules are extremely common and if the imaging is not concerning for cancer, you should relax. Nodules do not cause hypothyroidism. Stay proactive and good luck ...Read more

Sialadenitis: The history is indeed suspicious for parotid infection (parotitis) and/or stone in the parotid duct, but it is not clear exactly what is going on. Other possibilities include neck abscess or lymphadenitis. All of these are pretty high acuity problems that warrant prescription medication treatment. I would consider ENT evaluation, or see your primary. If it's bad, er evaluation is appropriate. ...Read more

Are benign cysts on thyroid a threat?

Are benign cysts on thyroid a threat?

not if benign: Thyroid cysts are common and are often part of a multinodular goiter. The nodules and cysts need to be evaluated by ultrasound. Some ultrasound features suggest more (or less) suspicion of cancer, and your doctor will want to biopsy those. If all you have are simple nodules and cysts, there is usually no need to worry. ...Read more

Where do cysts on the thyroid come from?

Where do cysts on the thyroid come from?

Sometimes, these follicules collace and form adenomas which are essentially an overgrowth. As the adenomas degenerate they can become fluid filled and are known as cyst. They are usually benign but rarely contain malignant components. To be safe, check TSH and get ultrasound. ...Read more
