Not normal: There are things that can occur there like thyroglossal duct cysts, dermoid cysts, lymph nodes, and other things to name a few. Maybe you can't feel something small that is developing but basically you should see an ENT for a thorough check. ...Read more

The : The thyroid gland should still work fine after this trauma. You can get blood tests to check it out. If your levels are off, low, you will need thyroid hormone supplement, a pill. I doubt that the strangling itself would cause hypothyroidism. You may have hashimoto thyroiditis which is not related to your trauma. Perhaps thyroid conditions run in your family.
