Low iron: Is your diet poor in iron rich foods? How heavy are your periods? Your iron level is your cause of hair loss, but you need to determine why you are iron deficient - from lack of intake or loss of blood (either menses or bleeding internally somewhere in your GI tract). ...Read more

Ferritin (Definition)

Ferritin is protein complex that binds iron and controls iron levels inside all of our cells. Low levels in the serum is a useful marker of iron deficiency. Macrophages are cells that contain large amounts of ferritin, and this that helps them scavenge RBC at sites of old hemorrhage. High serum ferritin levels occurs from macrophage activation and is a ...Read more

Early deficiency: Serum ferritin drops off before anemia appears or red cell indices go abnormal. Your physician will ask you about diet, your cycle, and whether you're perhaps having blood loss via the gut -- he / she will check. If you are a non-supplementing vegetarian, please reconsider. Best wishes. ...Read more

Anemia and vitamin: D deficiency. All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, you are deficient in iron and vitamin D and likely deficient in other nutrients as well. It is imperative that you see your doctor for a thorough evaluation. In meantime - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Need units/low BP,,,: I can't be sure of your hair loss, but your dizziness on standing seems a like orthostatic hypotension, where you do not have either enough volume of blood or blood pressure. This can be from meds to lower blood pressure, which also might explain your hair loss. You have low iron, and hb/hct values and these can be why you're tired, etc.. See your dr. For more evaluation, and get those lab units. ...Read more

Hair loss: There are many causes of hair loss in women. I would go back to your Physician to get further lab tests if the hair loss is more than normal. Here is a good article to read about it. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/hair-loss-diagnosis-women ...Read more

Many possibilities.: A ferritin of 33 is low -- I like to see it at least 80-100 for normal hair growth. But there are many other possible causes of hair thinning. See a dermatologist, who will run some tests to (hopefully) determine what the problem is. ...Read more
