It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. What you described suggest a ganglion. A benign swelling that may resolve on its own. You need to : Have a complete tear if the ulnar or radial collateral ligaments ruled out by a hand surgeon. These injuries can at time need surgery. A fracture should be ruled out too. Overuse?: Did you use your thumb heavily last week? If you have been protecting it as you heal, and now you're using it more normally, the swelling may be normal for 6 months after surgery.
