I had trigger thumb and carpal tunnel surgery on March 17, 2015. I still have numbness,tingling, tightness,sensitivity,is this normal ?
Yes: It takes time for the inflamed tissue to heal both from where the surgery was done and from around the nerve that was injured. Then it will take time for the nerve itself to heal. Need more info: There are a lot of bones in the hand and wrist, and exactly what needs to be done depends on the exact injury, even within the same bone. The repair can be anything from one pin placed internal, to a plate with 2 or more screws also placed internally, to 2 pins placed through the skin held externally. For those that are not or are associated with a more severe triggering or a fixed contracture or a tendon adherance or are just resistent to treatment and are uncomfortable, surgical release can work well. Slings are usually: Worn very briefly if at all. The sling keeps the hand dependent lower tha the heart and increases swelling as we'll as adding to elbow and shoulder stiffness. Ask your surgeon but personally I do not like slings. Make sure you really need it. ...Read more

If there is delay, the nerve is easily repaired usually after removing the neuroma that generally forms at the site. As for the tendon, 2 months after injury can be difficult. In anyone with UCL: Tear of the mcp joint of the thumb) 2 prior procedures with pain perhaps the stability that was needed just oculdnt be attended. I assume base means the mp jointnad not thereal "base: as in the cmc joint. Damage to the joint from the orignal traumatic episode may preclude complete relief of pain.
