I took diflucan (fluconazole) for 14 days..thrush from antibiotics. How long does it stay in your system after last dosage?

~6 days: Half-life of fluconazole is 30hrs (range 20-50hrs). Check out http://www.drugs.com/pro/diflucan.html. Medications are considered to be out of body after 5 half-lives or in this case 150hrs or 6+days, assuming 30hrs. Of course, this is affected by your kidney function, in which it could stay in your body longer or be broken down more quickly in less time. Most important is resolving infection ...Read more

Persistent oral thrush: no antibiotics/steroids, no hiv, all blood work is clear. My gp is lost, any direction?

Persistent oral thrush: no antibiotics/steroids, no hiv, all blood work is clear. My gp is lost, any direction?

Referral is needed: If you gp is not able to figure out what's wrong then it is time for you to see someone else, and i don't mean to speak low of your gp. Certainly HIV needed to be ruled out. It may be there is some other immune problem going on, or the diagnosis of thrush may be incorrect. Sometimes oral lichen planus can present like thrush. A biopsy would help to clarify this. I suggest you see a dermatologist. ...Read more

Is there a good way for me to take care of thrush while on antibiotics?

See your dentist: They will be able to assess whether you have thrush or not and give you a prescription for Nystatin or diflucan (fluconazole). If you cannot do that, try using warm saltwater rinses 3 times a day for every day you are on the medication and a week after. Gentian violet has also be recommended as a home treatment for oral thrush but it is poisonous so do not use. ...Read more
