Not sure: There are a lot of possible causes of persistent nausea, and it would require more detail then you have provided here to try to sort it out. A good start would be to try a chewable antacid such as Tums (calcium carbonate) several times a day for a week or two, whenever you get the nausea, just to see if it helps at all. If it does help, it's probably related to the stomach. If it does not, see your doctor. Good luck. ...Read more

I have a habit of drinking my daily water intake from late evening until 10am. This throws me off. Minus therapy what's the best way to space it out?

Not sure how you do: It? It's important not to be drinking a lot while you're eating, and apparently you might not be doing that at 10P to 10A. Are you working the graveyard shift to accomplish this? Otherwise, if you're thirsty this late at night, and your ADH (vasopressin) serum test was normal, then you don't have diabetes insipidus, and can try sleeping without getting up to drink water until morning. Must change UR habits! ...Read more

Why do people throw prescription drugs down the toilet?

Disposal: Although not a responsible behavior, some people get rid of the leftover drugs on a prescription or expired drugs by putting them in the toilet because it is so easy. I have a friend that if she gets into a boat or tries walking on a dock she gets extremely sick and starts to throw up, it seems the movement in the water triggers it, she fine any other time, and I just bought a new boat and want to take her for a ride,

It: It sounds as if she has motion sickness/sea sickness. There are medications that can help - over the counter - such as an antihistamine like dramamine (dimenhydrinate) and prescription - such as scopolamine or promethazine. Just a warning though - antihistamines can make you sleepy. Some people will also try remedies such as accupressure bands and ginger, but research hasn't really shown these methods to be very effective though they are harmless if she wants to try them. She should talk to her doctor about which options would be best for her. ...Read more

As: As doctors, the first thing we do when we hear a woman is having a light or missed period or abnormal spotting, we check a pregnancy test - so I'm glad you took one already. You can always take a home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period, or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period.

There are other reasons besides pregnancy that can cause a woman to miss a period such as: stress, diet, excessive exercise or a hormone imbalance such as with a thyroid disorder or poly cystic ovarian syndrome. The foul odor and change in appearance of your urine could also be an indication of an infection such as bacterial vaginosis, a yeast infection or even a sexually transmitted disease like trichamonas. You should give you doctor a call and have an exam just to be sure. Good luck! ...Read more

My son is 13 months old and he throws up like, when he cries hard or sometimes with thicker foods. I'm not sure what's going on?

Delayed emptying: He may have slow emptying of his stomach so when he cries or has thicker foods that are hard to digest they sit longer and any bearing down movement (crying or taking a bm for example) may cause him to reflux or throw it up. A visit with your doc will help sort it out. ...Read more

2.5 year old throws up sometimes when he cries. Is this normal?

Yes: Children may vomit with the mucous and tears that occur during crying. They may also vomit or even hold their breath during temper tantrums. If your child is vomiting while having a temper outburst, keep the clean up matter-of-fact and don't give him a lot of positive reinforcement for it, or it will encourage him to vomit for attention. ...Read more

My 19-month old son throws up every time he coughs. Please help!?

My 19-month old son throws up every time he coughs. Please help!?

Not unusual: The muscle activity used to cough are similar to those used in vomiting. Younger toddlers may have difficulty separating the two actions & a particularly harsh cough is more likely to end up this way. Keeping the kid hydrated & avoiding meds (antihistamines) that thicken secretions making it harder to cough up phlegm can help. The kid will gain better control as he gets older. ...Read more

My child throws himself on the floor and pounds his fists. How should I respond?

My child throws himself on the floor and pounds his fists. How should I respond?

A new TipTap: As my collegues point out, children communicate as best they are able. And sometimes the innate behavior is a tantrum. Hese are done to obtain a goal which includes attention. Ignoring teaches the child that this will not work. After the tantrum is over, give a hug to reinforce the " good" behavior. ...Read more
