Throbbing Pain Under Left Rib Cage
I occasionally have bouts of throbbing/sharp pain under left rib cage, subsiding w/ time. What on earth could this mean? For about 4 years. Serious?

Included in the area u stated there the spleen splenic flexure of the colon and the entire descending colon. There is also small bowel in the next layer and then kidneys tho they r extra peritoneal. U need 2 b evaluated and get a definative DX from ur pcp or internist.

Chest?: It is difficult to tell what is exactly the problem without knowing what other symptoms you are having. Is there shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, sweating? If so then you need to go to the ed in order to rule out any cardiac issues. Other possibilities are abdominal problems which cover a number of issues. Pain L side: Hi LizY844, Motrin might not be the best to use here because this could be due to too much acid in stomach/ulcer type pain. I would stop any aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (like motrin) and use antacid (OTC) 10-20 ml 3x/day and add nexium (esomeprazole) or similar and see if this helps. Thanks ...Read more
