Need more history: Sounds like this headache is worrying to you. Your brief description has some features that point toward and away from such diagnoses as migraine and hemicrania continua. Tumors are more likely to cause seizures and focal neurological symptoms than headaches, and when tumors do cause headaches, the headache often worsens with lying down. If you'd like to discuss more, feel free to consult me.

Need MRI: Brain Tumors are very rare. So, it is very unlikely that you have that. However, headaches is one of the most common presenting complaints of brain tumors and many new cases had headaches for months before anyone ordered the right test. MRI of the Brain with contrast is the test of choice. Ask your GP for this but your insurance may deny it. You will then have to appeal, but don't give up.

For the past two years I have been getting severe throbbing pain to the left side of my head/brain. It comes and goes but sometimes I'm in agony.

Behavioral medicine: Presuming that you have been thoroughly examined by your doc, you might consider some behavioral interventions. Your BP might also be elevated due to the pain. Herbert benson, md, a cardiologist has a great little technique called the relaxation response that might be helpful in relaxing the vessels in your head.

R/O TENSION HA: The 4 basic headaches are Tension, Sinus, migraine and cluster. The muscles that originate at the base of the neck insert near the temple. Rest /ice and a darkened room may help. Also a NSAID like Aleve (naproxen) /daypro. Muscle relaxant ie KLONOPIN/ FLEXERIL. Meditation/Yoga/Biofeedback. GF DIET WHOLEAPPROACH. Com You need a full exam an blood work to be through. I have had a throbbing pain in the left side of my head above my ear and in my cheek and upper teeth. The cheek is getting worse? What could it be?

Muscle spasm: This could be a muscle spasm from clenching or grinding. Sinus pressure can also mimic tooth pain. Rule out definitive dental concerns such as cavities in teeth. If you are clenching, you may just need a mouth guard made.

Since I woke up I've had a sharp throbbing pain only on the left side of my head when I move around or stand up. I don't feel ill at all, what is this?

Hard to say: The causes of a new headache are large in number and range from tension headache migraine to more serious problems. A common cause of a headache on awakening is sleep apnea, especially in those who snore and are obese. New severe headaches generally require medical evaluation so people with this issue should seek medical attention.

Possible migraine: Possible migraine. Unilateral, throbbing are not enough criteria for diagnostic of migraine. Check if there is sensitivity to light or noise, nausea or vomiting. Also if migraine is running in the family. The red flags in your situation would be sudden onset and accelerating pattern. If it is migraine the treatment is available.

See your PCP: For examination and tests to rule out temporal arteritis. Initially the headache may be the only presenting symptom with the temporal and occipital regions being the most common locations. Tender spots or nodules may be present in the scalp, especially over inflamed arteries. See your PCP for evaluation and diagnosis.
