For the past 2 years I have these white looking bumps in the back of my throat. Tonsils have been out for 1 year yet still having throat pain.

Unlikely: Any body who had unprotected sex could get HIV and not even any symptoms. While possible, it is not likely that your symptoms are due to HIV. A viral or bacterial sore throat is much more likely. If and when you see your doctor, you can ask for a HIV screening test. ...Read more

Cysts??: You could have mucus cysts in your throat. These are common. I would suggest that you consult with an ear-nose-throat specialist. At your age unless you are a heavy smoker then I would be very concerned otherwise not. ...Read more

I only have 1 tonsil. Every now & then will get a sore throat. Tonsil leaks fluid & has puss balls. Any thoughts?

Surgery?: It is highly unlikely you only have one tonsil. Most likely the other tonsil is so small, it can not be visualized. If the tonsil that you see has pus and infection, you may consider a culture and sensitivity for an appropriate antibiotic. The indication for tonsil surgery is 3-4 episodes of documented tonsillitis in a year. ...Read more

Treated for tonsillitis but whole throat/tonsils swollen & red. Glands in neck swollen too after 20 days. Should it get worse to get better?

Culture: If the tonsils are red and swollen for 20 days and an antibiotic has been unsuccessful I would strongly recommend a culture of the throat to rule out a viral infection or a specific bacterial infection. Finally, infectious mono needs to be ruled out. No it should not get worse before it gets better. You need a specific diagnosis. See an ENT doctor. ...Read more
