Throat Swabs Pcr Positive For Virus (Overview)

Pcr (polymerase chain reaction) is a biochemical lab procedure sometimes used to test for a virus you might have. If the test is right, the virus tested really is there :( the test can however, be a false positive (meaning it was positive, but the virus is not really there). Results vary depending on a number of factors. Talk with your pcp about the meaning of your result and what to do next.

Can CMV virus and type 2 diabetes together make the HIV western blot and PCR viral load tests false positive for hiv?

Can CMV virus and type 2 diabetes together make the HIV western blot and PCR viral load tests false positive for hiv?

Yes: A false positive is possible. A test done by a reputable lab is far better than the otc options! false positives can happen even if your health status is perfect! ...Read more

Is PCR test for acute hepatitis c? If it is how long after exposure should I get blood test done for the virus to be detected?

Is PCR test for acute hepatitis c? If it is how long after exposure should I get blood test done for the virus to be detected?

6 weeks to 6 months: The time line is variable, you may wish to get tested for hep c antibody for screening. If the antibody test is negative at 6 months you should get pcr test, if that is negative, it would rule out infection with hep c. See this site for more info. http://www.medicinenet.com/hepatitis_c/article.htm. ...Read more

Not HIV: Modern HIV tests never miss HIV, and HIV test results ALWAYS overrule symptoms. And HIV symptoms are nonspecific, i.e. identical symptoms in many conditions, mostly minor. Your test results PROVE your symptoms are not HIV. Keep working with your doctor to determine the actual cause. Do not have any more HIV tests. ...Read more

My daughter tested positive for mono yesterday. how long has it been since she contracted the virus. she doesnt seem to b overly tired but had the sore throat and swollen glands.

Mono testing: Given that she has other symptoms, it is likely that the disease contact was within the past week to 10 days. The mono test is based on development of IgM antibodies, which are the first ones to appear, and develop within about a week. Depending on the test, there can be other considerations, but her case sounds consistent with the common scenario. ...Read more

How could polymerase chain reaction detect bacteria and viruses?

How could polymerase chain reaction detect bacteria and viruses?

Specific DNA probes: Each organism has unique DNA and or RNA and probes specific to each organism can be created. Such probes allow the organisms to be detected in biological or other samples. For an example of such a test, visit this site: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC265465/ ...Read more

Polymerase Chain Reaction (Definition)

Polymerase chain reaction is a method of finding a specific piece of dna and copying it over and over again until there is enough to study. The technique allows a scientist to detect very small amounts of dna in a swab sample then reproduce enough of it to study it. It is very sensisitive for detecting the presence of certain bacteria and is also used in doing other ...Read more
