However, throat pain with or without swallowing might be due a throat infection; for example, strep tonsillitis, or another form of tonsillitis. Sore throats tricky: It's so hard to predict accurately when a sore throat IS NOT a strep throat. Your symptoms SOUND like either viral pharyngitis or allergic, right? But, you could also have strep. Give it time: We know true strep is universally sensitive (killed) by penicillin, but the tissue disruption/pain triggered by infection may take time to improve.
