Sinus or acid reflux: If just sore throat without weight loss or history of smoking/drinking I would not be concerned about cancer. If you have those symptoms with smoking/drinking history - i'd be concerned. This may be something as simple as acid reflux. Over the counter antacids taken daily can help. Give it a few hours: It should get better within a few hours. Chloraseptic spray or warm salt water may help. Then, use common sense and don't use the med anymore. Depends: I find the soothing feature of menthol from chewing gum, throat lozenges, or candy canes very helpful for most kids at that age.
