Severely swollen tonsils. Was referred to ENT for possible abscess. ENT refuted abscess dx. Strep screen was negative. history of mono. What could it be?
Follow up with ENT: To obtain clarity, one would want to know are your symptoms new, what difficulty are the large tonsils causing you? If it is sleep/breathing while sleeping, snoring while sleeping, needing to sleep in a chair unable to lie flat. difficulty swallowing, food, liquids. What medication: If your immune system is working well, your lymph nodes will often get enlarged and can be painful as it filters out the badness. You did not state if they determined what specific infection it was (if they determined the cause) and if you are on antibiotics.
