Probably because...: One ate more food or drinks, meaning calories, than one used up during that week. Some women also hold onto water-weight and/or poop-weight during certain days of their menstrual cycle. If those days happen to be at the same time as when she eats too many calories, then the sudden weight gain will even be more striking. Doesn't Add up: 23lbs gained is 83,000 excess calories. 1200-1400 cal per day with exercise should make you lose weight. Full sugar soda, energy drinks or alcohol can add empty calories you may not be counting. The excess has to be coming from somewhere. Maybe counting wrong: Double check the calorie-counting. Any form of exercise burns calories, so if one does not eat or drink more calories than he is using during his exercise, then his body will burn up fat as fuel. However, if a person drinks a large orange juice (about 300 calories) while exercising, and exercises away only 200 calories, he will still get heavier even though he is exercising. ...Read more

Weight loss: I cannot answer this question effectively because i don't know how many calories you spend in a day. If you spend less than 1200 kal/day, then you may end up gaining. If you spend more than that, then you will continue in the weight loss mode. Drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water /day. Aim for 8 hrs of sleep & at least 5 servings of vegetables & 4 of fruit /day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid soda, alcohol & junk carbs. Yes. Congrats.: Just by drinking less alcohol & exercising more than 3x/wk, u have become healthier, regardless of wt loss. But... Congratulations on losing 7 lbs., also!
