I'm 42 non smoker have had chest discomfort. If your having symptoms of lung cancer would the tumor be big enough to be seen on a xray?

The sensitivity: of a chest xray for detecting lung cancer ranges from about 40-80% according to various studies. A chest x-ray is not sufficient to rule out lung cancer, sometimes even larger tumors can be masked due to their location next to normal structures. If lung Ca is a realistic concern, Chest CT is the study of choice. ...Read more

Is chest pain a common symptom of lung cancer if cancer is causing pain how big would a tumor have to be and what is the likelihood of showing on xray?

Here is my guidance: Chest pain can be caused from many causes, lung cancer is not the first thing that should come to your mind. If the pain has been present for more than one week and your concern is cancer, a Chest X-ray will show it easily. But you should go see a doctor first in case your pain is persistent for >1 week.. ...Read more

Friend has an baseball sized tumor? growth on the outside of his chest. It looks soft & says it 's bleeds when he moves to fast& 2 tiny 1's on arm

May be sarcoma: Most common lesions to reach baseball size on chest wall are lipomas. However they don't bleed. One must consider if primary, that lesion is a form of angiosarcoma or vascular dysplastic melanoma . Treatment never offered unless dx available. If easily resectable, this approach needed. Cancerous Tumor on lymph node in Chest Grew from 25/35 to 26/37 over last 2months.. Would this be Considered a Fairly Fast Growing Tumor ?

Why do you ask?: "Fairly fast growing tumor" is not a term used in medicine. Cancers are unpredictable and deadly. The change in size might be within the variability of the scan to read and it could be stable for now. Many chest cancers grow much faster. The key is to discuss the case with physicians you trust getting a consult if you feel you need one. ...Read more

Had lung xray. Could it also tell if i had a tumor in chest?

Sometimes: Cancers of numerous types occur through out different age groups. If you had a tumor or mass, it could potentially be identified by chest x-ray. This would more likely be a "surprise" or "incidental finding". If a tumor was suspected, a chest x-ray would not normally be the imaging modality used to find/locate/define a tumor in the chest. ...Read more

Can you pick up a breat tumor frim a chest xray? And is it a white spot?

Possible but...: Only very large or very dense tumors would be expected to show up. That's why we need mammograms to find all of the tiny and less dense ones. And the microscopic ones. Most things that would show as a white density in breast on CHEST X-ray I expect would be skin cyst or something similar. If your MD is unsure he/she can always order a mammogram , Ultrasound or biopsy to clarify ...Read more

My dad says he has a tumor in his chest but he's scared to go to the doctor. What harm can it do to him?

Must be evaluated: The word tumor just means a lump of cells that isn't supposed to be there. It can be small, benign (not cancerous, so doesn't spread to other places), in an unimportant place, and slow-growing, which is not a big deal. It can be big, cancerous, growing into vital organs, and rapidly increasing, which can kill the person quickly. Of course, it can also be anywhere in between those extremes. ...Read more
