Dr saw thickening of uterine lining 5 mos. ago. Had recheck ultrasound & lining is 9 mm with fluid. Having biopsy & really scared it's cancer. ?
Its possible: 14% of patients who present with postmenopausal bleeding will have endometrial cancer so an endometrial biopsy is warranted. The most recent recommendation is that a thickness of <3mm be used as the cutoff for excluding endometrial cancer. Of course, with your being 9mm, evaluation is absolutely necessary. Yes but unlikely: I suppose it is possible to have uterine cancer when the lining is thick. There are simple in office and in the operating room ways to get a sample of the tissue and make sure. Post menopausal. Have 9mm thickened uterine lining that biopsy said is benign. No bleeding. Is hysterectomy a radical treatment for this condition?
Yes: An incidental finding of a slightly thickened uterine lining is not a major emergency. It sounds like your doctor has carefully evaluated you and not found a problem.
