40yr old, uterine polyp endo lining thick, estrogen high. No menopause yet. Will amberen work for me to balance hormones?
No: I've checked the ingredient list for amberen and do not see anything listed that would be either helpful or harmful in this situation. With a thick lining, high estrogen and a polyp, a cancer or precancer must be ruled-out and treatment with natural Progesterone the best option in many situations.
I am 60 and have been post-menopausal for 20 years. I've taken bhrt for most of that time. My uterine lining is thick (abt 3-5 cm) and I am to have a prometrium (micronized progesterone) sweeping. [rest of q in subsequent msg]?
Uh oh: If your uterine lining is really 3-5 centimeters thick - you need to have some form of biopsy done (endometrial biopsy in the office) or d&c.The uterine lining of a postmenopausal women should be closer to 3 millimeters, and if it is 3cm, there is a very high chance of having endometrial cancer.I don't know what Prometrium (micronized progesterone) sweeping is, but if it is taking Prometrium (micronized progesterone) for 7d, to cause. It isn't enoug.See 1 more doctor answer
Requires attention: More often than not, when caught early, this situation is not cancer, but should be evaluated and treated asap. If cancer, and treated early can be cured. If not cancer, it will not go away or get better, and must be treated sooner or later anyway. Delay could lead to cancer.
Overgrowth or polyp: Women often experience an overgrowth of the lining of their uterus, the endometrium, called hyperplasia. The hyperplasia may be only simple, requiring only hormonal treatment, or complex, with atypia, which is more worrisome since it can be precancerous, best treated with hysterectomy. If the uterine lining's thickness was noted on an ultrasound, it may also be due to a polyp, usually benign.

Leiomyomas: Leiomyomas of the uterus (fibroids) sometimes shrink after menopause, but some women have them actually enlarge. It sounds like yours are very large which concerns me. I would recommend following your doctors advice, or at least obtaining a second opinion, because it sounds like your doctor is concerned they may compress your ureters which could cause kidney damage. Please be re-evaluated or at least seek a second opinion as I am concerned by that.See 1 more doctor answer
Very sore in ext. Vaginal area I avoid sex and in menopause. Waiting for results from pelvic ultrasound to see if uterus lining thin. Suggestions?
Vaginal Estrogen: When you are in menopause, your body stops making estrogen. Since the vaginal tissue is very sensitive to estrogen, it can become thin and lose its ability to stretch. When you have intercourse, you can actually get micro-tears in the vaginal wall that are painful. These symptoms usually respond to a vaginal estrogen cream or tablet. Don't have intercourse if its painful. Best wishes!
Depends: Some women taking hormonal replacement may have a thickened lining. Women who are diabetic, obese, may also have thickening. Polyps may appear as a thickened lining as can certain cancers. If the lining is thick a simple d&c, hysteroscopy (looking inside with a scope) will provide rapid answers.

What're the chances of a very thick endometrial lining being cancerous in a post menopausal woman?
Need a biopsy: Although a thickened endometrial lining can be one of the findings in uterine cancer, this finding alone does not confer a diagnosis of cancer. Typically, a post-menopausal woman will present with vaginal bleeding to her ob/gyn. Her doctor will then perform an endometrial biopsy to confirm or negate a diagnosis of cancer.
