Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

Ended cipro (ciprofloxacin) yesterday for UTI but still showing trace lucocytes in urine, does this mean i still have an infection?
Yes: With the increased use of cipro (ciprofloxacin), (cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin) there are now more bacteria resistant to this antibiotic. You may have a mied population of bacteria, majority of which have been killed by cipro (ciprofloxacin). However, you may now be harboring the resistant stragglers that your immune system are still fighting - hence the leucocytes in your urine. Your body might succeed on its own and you may not need more rx but if not... ...Read more

What does abnormal urine culture mean? I've been using ciprofloxacin for the last week for a uti infection. Lately not much improvement.
Confirm UTI? Or STD?: It sounds like the culture just confirmed your UTI. However, UTIs are uncommon in males your age. Are you sure it wasn't a urine test for gonorrhea or chlamydia? These STDs, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are often misdiagnosed as UTI and are much more common. Check back with your doctor. ...Read more
Does Cipro (ciprofloxacin) help with Nephroptosis? This is what the ER Dr gave me but I had no infection in tests.Seeing Kidney specialist soon but pain is BAD.Advice?
Here are some...: Nephroptosis is often an incidental finding while taking imaging studies such as CT for abdominal pain. It is a medical term to describe a high kidney mobility between lying and standing positions. However, how that finding is related with the patient has to be assessed very carefully so to determine its clinical significance. Clinically, it's very unlikely to cause UTI so Cipro (ciprofloxacin) would not help. ...Read more
My husbands nly complaint is the need to pee. No pain. He went to doctor and no infection. Gave cipro (ciprofloxacin) for a week. Felt ok. But its come back.?
See below: Does he drink much caffeine (coffee/tea/colas /soda pop)? It acts like water pill (diuretic); so it can increase need to pee as well as cause potassium loss. 33 y/o is young for prostate problems, but possible. Not unless sensitive: Best management of a UTI is for dr to get urine sample for culture & sensitivities before antiantibiotics are taken. Patient can start antibiotics as soon as sample is taken. Result will be ready in 48 hrs. And show which antibiotics will be effective against bacteria causing your uti. If bacteria are resistant, as yours are, an appropriate antibiotic can be selected, usually not amoxil (amoxicillin). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I went to ER last night for possible bronchitis or throat infection the ER gave me amoxicillen and today my family doctor gave me cipro (ciprofloxacin) which one work?
Both: Either antibiotic may be adequate to treat bronchitis if the infection is due to a bacteria. If you got the Amoxil one day and Cipro (ciprofloxacin) the next, you probably should give the first medication several days to see if it works. If the infection is due to a virus, antibiotics will not help. It's difficult to differentiate between bacteria and virus, but virus is usually a more common cause of bronchitis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
IUD refit 23/7 in UK.STD free.In Vietnam.Cant go hospital.All symptoms of infection.Purchased Metronidazole+Doxycycline. Do I need Ciprofloxacin too?
See answer: Difficult to reply to question without knowing your symptoms and a proper exam. Your hx suggests the possibility of pelvic inflammation and metronidazole and doxycycline together for 10-14 days would be an appropriate oral regimen to cover the usual causative bacteria without the need for Ciprofloxacin. Worsening of symptoms or significant fever/chills should prompt immediate medical evaluation. ...Read more

Continue Rx and f/u: If there is obstruction and infection with kidney stone it is a potentially serious even life threatening problem. F/u urine testing and culture can diagnose and confirm resolution of infection. ...Read more
Put on cipro (ciprofloxacin) for uti or bladder infection. Read side effects of it & it says it's a dangerous antibiotic. Is it safe? Zpak gave nerve damage last year.
Probably safe but...: Ciprofloxacin and similar antibiotics (fluoroquinolones) indeed are more toxic than most doctors realized for many years, and are no longer considered first line drugs for UTI. However, the vast majority of those who take them have no side effects at all; the main problems come with higher doses for longer times. Azithromycin (Z-pak) is unrelated; that side effect doesn't increase risk from cipro (ciprofloxacin). ...Read more
Maybe: This depends on what you are using the Ciprofloxacin for. It will not cure yeast infections and may prolong the yeast infection or create an environment for reinfection after treatment. If the Ciprofloxacin is for another infection and needed to cure that, the therapy for the yeast infection may need to be prolonged. ...Read more
i have finished my 7day cipro (ciprofloxacin) for a uti and my partner has 1day left, is it ok to say he is clear of the infection? Im ready to be intimate again.
Sex probably OK...: ...but something doesn't compute. UTIs are not sexually transmitted (even though sex sometimes can trigger UTI in women). There is no need for sex partners to be treated. Are you sure there wasn't an STD problem, like gonorrhea, chlamydia, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) in your partner? OTOH, cipro (ciprofloxacin) is not a good drug for any of these. Were you tested for STDs? Recheck with your doctor. ...Read more
