There's A Clicking In My Shoulder During A Bench Press
My both elbow joints are clicking while doing any triceps workout or bench press/ shoulder press or pushups for 1 yr. I have no pain. Is it normal?
Normal clicking: Clicking in a joint can be due to lots of different things. Nearly 99.9% of the time though if it isn't painful you aren't doing any damage. Clicking can be caused by tendons slipping over the joint or a bony prominence or the joint capsule rubbing on the joint or tendons. If it becomes painful you need to back off. No: It is normal unless it causes pain. If that is the cause, see an orthopedist. Read more
May be normal: Clicking of the joints is often very normal. With working out, tendons thicken and can snap over bony prominences. Unless painful, this snapping may not be a problem. If painful, then get your shoulder evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon or sports specialist. Also, analyze your work out routine with a trainer to make sure your technique does not create shoulder problems. Read more
Popping and clicking in my shoulder when I move my arm in circles 1 month after apparent ligament injury healed. Is this normal?
Crepitation-shoulder: A certain degree of crepitus can be normal. However, if you have painful crepitus, or if you have limitation in your range of motion or instability of your shoulder, you should visit an orthopaedic surgeon for a physical exam. Crepitus can be from the bone, the joint, tenosynovitis or bursitis, or a fracture, which is unlikely without serious pain. Good luck. Read more
Any # of things: Differential would include painful/arthritic AC joint (joint at end of clavicle), rotator cuff tear or intractable tendinitis, labral tearing (cartilage surrounding socket which helps stabilize joint), altered mechanics or abnormal motion of the scapula (shoulder blade) on chest wall. Bottom line if chronic and interfering with daily activities/work should be evaluated by orthopedic surgeon. Read more
Scapula Pain: Inflammation can occur underneath the shoulder blade where there is a bursa. This is called scapulothoracic bursitis and can be treated with therapy, NSAIDS, pain medications, and possibly a steroid injection. Make an appointment with an Orthopaedic shoulder surgeon to be evaluated and discuss treatment options. Take care, Joe Wilson. Read more

My shoulder blade has been making a popping and clicking, has a tingly feeling sometimes also. What's the cause of this?
Musculoskeletal: Popping and clicking in the area of the shoulder blade is not uncommon. Popping, clicking and tingling in the area of the shoulder blade may suggest some mild nerve irritation vs impingement in the setting of some joint laxity, mild musculoskeletal spasm in that area, or both. I have a clicking in my left shoulder when doing push ups, should I be worried? Is there anything I should be doing to fix this issue?
Depends: If it doesn't hurt or lead to difficulty or pain when moving the shoulder, it may simply be "normal." clicks can be caused by several different processes, and if there is pain involved, you should hold off on the push-ups for now and see a medical professional at your earliest convenience to make sure the bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments of the shoulder are all ok. Tendonitis: It sounds very much as though you have an early shoulder tendonitis, possibly of the biceps tendon, maybe of the rotator cuff. Have you been doing biceps curls in the gym? If so you may have injured the biceps tendon. When irritated the tendon can come out of its track and feel tight, and it certainly hurts when you try to stretch it. You should have it seen by a physiatrist. Read more

Hi when I use the pec dec at the gym ive recently noticed a clicking in my left shoulder. I don't want this to escalate into something more serious.?
Balance: Typically this is from an imbalance of musculature between your chest and your back muscles and you are too strong in the chest compared to the back. Do exercises that are pulling motions to strengthen the muscles around your scapula and rear deltoid and the clicking should improve. Clicking alone is not a big issue as long as that part of the body doesn't hurt, if it hurts and clicks see MD. Read more

I have clicking, grinding and popping noise from my shoulder. I have inflexible shoulders due to bad posture and I'm 1 year into crossfit. I do static?
Need better posture: Lots of things cause clicking and popping in the shoulders. Typically if you are not having pain from the clicking and popping you don't have much to worry about. The posture thing can cause abnormal shoulder motion because of your shoulder blade. The shoulder blade (or scapula) actually controls where the arm is positioned in space. You need to work on scapular mechanics with physical therapy Read moreSee 5 more doctor answers
