Follow : Isolated lumbar curve is a bit unusual. May require further imaging based on history and exam. 20 degrees is not a very large curve provided there is not too much vertebral rotation. Most girls have had their peak growth spurt by the time they get their period. So there may not be that much growth left and her 'risser' grade may give more clue to that. Most wouldn't: I don't even refer cases out with that minor level of deviation. Your doc is in a better position to sort out any back pain issues but many with scoliosis at higher degrees have no pain at all. ...Read more

Early arthritis: Not sure why a 34yo has these problems. Your description of X-ray sounds like back spasm causing some local splinting and curvature,not classic scoliosis. I have scoliosis so I'm in a lot of pain I have tried massage therapy, exercise and heating pads it doesn't help. I've tried over the counter meds nothing helps. What would you suggest?

Scoliosis can lead to conditions that subsequently can cause pain, but scoliosis itself does not have to be associated with pain.
