while cigar smoke is not deeply inhaled and thus may be less toxic to lungs, cigar smoking causes increased risk of cancer of the lip, tongue, mouth, throat & larynx. See www.Cancer.Gov/cancertopics/factsheet/tobacco/cigars. ...Read more

How many people die from cigar or pipe smoking each year?

Hard to say: The national data is mostly on tobacco use, and 90% of that is cigarettes. Also, most pipe and cigar smokers do not inhale all the tobacco smoke, so most of the complications are related to cancer of the mouth and throat, rather than lung cancer. Nicotine is absorbed through mouth tissue, so there is still an increase in heart disease, but not as much as cigarettes. A guess - 40-50 thousand/y. ...Read more

Smoking djarum clove cigars, how bad is it? I smoke about 6 to 8 a day. They are the same size as a regular cigarette

They are terrible: Cloves have at least twice the amount of toxic "tars" as tobacco, carry more carbon monoxide into the body, and have a specific chemical called eugenol which is especially damaging to lungs. They are not a healthier alternative to tobacco, even though they do not have nicotine. However, they are less "addicting" and easier to quit than tobacco, and that is exactly what you should do! ...Read more
