Is it healthy to eat soaked, uncooked steel cut oats? I'm getting mixed messages about the health benefits and difficulties of digesting whole grains.

Is it healthy to eat soaked, uncooked steel cut oats? I'm getting mixed messages about the health benefits and difficulties of digesting whole grains.

It's ok: Uncooked soaked oats, like in muesli, are ok. Cooking breaks down cell walls, turns it into porridge, released mucilages and soluble fiber; makes it easier re: digestion, but not likely an issue with normal GI tract. Arguably some of the undigested carbs might increase gas (fermented by bowel bacteria). ...Read more

Does eating white rice with vegetables and meat lower the effects of the high GI of white rice?

Does eating white rice with vegetables and meat lower the effects of the high GI of white rice?

Yes: A high glycemic index food can be balanced with a low-glycemic food. If you eat a food with a glycemic index of 80 with an equal amount of a food with a glycemic index of 20 the average for the meal is 50. So it is unwise to eat high-glycemic foods on their own but if eaten in moderation and combined with low-glycemic foods they are relatively safe to eat. ...Read more

Other than fibre... What is the benefit of eating whole vegetables as opposed to vegetable juice?

Less sugar: Vegetable juice has a substantial amount of sugar from the veggies that it is made from. You will take in more calories from juice than if you eat a few servings of vegetables. Fiber is an issue too, and fiber from vegetables helps to reduce the risk of diabetes, colon cancer, diverticulosis, and obesity. ...Read more

What's the difference of overeating sugary/fatty foods and overeating healthy foods with same amoutn of calories?

What's the difference of overeating sugary/fatty foods and overeating healthy foods with same amoutn of calories?

Metabolism: Not all calories are created equal. The body metabolizes high sugar foods, including alcohol, very quickly into fat if these calories are not needed to sustain physical exercise. Most of us do not burn the amount of calories we eat. Unless we are in control of our eating. Do replace your junk food with healthy foods with the same # of calories. See for yourself. I bet you will lose some lbs. ...Read more

Eating only 2 wholemeal bread, 1 small pack of jacob's, 3 ordinary biscuit & 4 digestive biscuit for whole day. is it healthy? my friend is on diet.

NOT healthy at all!: I have no idea what jacob's is but everything else your eating is bread/ starches. The healthiest diet (for both weight loss and good health) is to eat mostly vegetables & fruits with healthy protein and to minimize starch. You don't seem to be eating any veggies/fruit & eating mostly starch, the opposite of a healthy diet! My favorite diet is Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian- see http://bit.ly/1dHW9hT ...Read more
