My left hand including some finger tips are numb? Is it an emergency nerve problem?

Depends on Onset: If your left hand and finger tips became numb suddenly, say, after an acute injury, you should go to the er to be evaluated for potential nerve damage. If the numbness came on gradually over a few days or weeks with no injury, it is likely not an emergency situation and you can make an outpatient appointment with your primary care physician for an evaluation. Carpal tunnel is most likely. ...Read more

Hi I was a little worried about this numb feeling in my left hand on the side of pinky finger going down that side but it is only my left hand?

Ulnar neuropathy?: The symptoms you describe are typical for trouble with the ulnar nerve. This is the nerve that travels along the inner elbow and causes the 'funny bone' sensation when the elbow is hit in a certain way. Sometimes the nerve can get pinched in the elbow and surgery can relieve the pressure. An EMG/NCS test can determine if this is what is going on. Good luck! ...Read more

I have had numbness in the tip of my middle and ring finger on my left hand for a few weeks. It's a constant numbness, even present when I'm relaxing?

Numbness: Numbness of fingers can be due to pinching of nerves at the wrist such as seen in carpal tunnel syndrome. Since only the very tips of two fingers are involved, a localized neuropathy may be the cause. At this point your symptoms are minor, but if they worsen or start to involve other regions of the hand, consult a hand SURGEON or neurologist for diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more

Pressure neuropathy: is my best guess, based on your sleep position. Make sure you are not sleeping on your hand, or propping it up or on your chest. Does it eventually go away each day? If not, you could also have an odd pattern of carpal tunnel syndrome. Wear a wrist brace to sleep (not tight though) and see your doc if it persists. ...Read more

I've had alcohol in excess, numb fingers on left hand, what is going on?

Long term alcohol: Use can lead to neuropathy. While this is a possible cause of your numbness, there can be others, including injuries or trapped nerves in neck, wrist, or elbow. Talk to your doctor to get vit b and Folic Acid levels on you to see if these could be a cause of your neuropathy. If those are normal, discuss other causes. Most importantly, talk to them about solutions to using too much alcohol. ...Read more

My left hand often cramps painfully for 20+ minutes and I cannot stretch it out. I also have numbness in pinkie and ring finger. What could this be?

Often no cause: Spontaneous painful muscle cramps often happen without any detectable cause. Electrolytes imbalance and low Calcium levels in blood are rather uncommon causes of painful cramps. Gentle stretching of the painful muscle along with gentle massage resolves it in few minutes. Some medicines are associated with muscle cramps (like Statins) but they do not cause muscle contraction . ...Read more
