No quick answer: Resting the area is the only treatment. Unfortunately, when you strain a muscle near the ribs, it is impossible to 100% rest is - due to the need of the diaphragm and ribs for breathing... Were U eating right: before walking? Best idea is to check with your PCP and have an abdominal exam done in person to see if your liver, gallbladder, intestines (appendix) feel normal upon palpation to ascertain if it's internal, or external (rib strain/ intercostal muscle or otherwise). You've had previous surgery and depending where you had it can also affect if you had any scar tissue/adhesions impacting it or not ...Read more

Diagnosed with idc with mets to spine/ribs on 9/4. Mri done in feb shows they missed the spine met. How long did I have cancer? How fast do mets grow?

Each case is unique: Stage IV idc has about a 20% 5 year survival by american cancer society stats; but no case is typical. The speed of growth and prognosis depend on many things, including: tumor size, grade and staging of disease, the presence of certain tumor markers (her/2) and whether your cancer has hormone receptors for estrogen and progesterone.
