Are potato chips and french fries still considered vegetables? Are they bad for you even if they are cooked in "vegetable" oil?
Sort of, REALLY BAD: Technically french fries/chips are vegetables but are also junk food. When people are advised to eat veggies these aren't what's meant & don't count as credit towards servings. French fries/chips are very fattening, usually contain hazardous trans fats & have high levels of carcinogenic acrylamides. Baked potatoes have acrylamides too but less fat. See http://www. Like to eat vegetables by sauteing them in 2-3 tbsp of oil and some spices. Is it healthy to have vegies like this everyday? 2-3 tbsp oil is not frying?
Which oil? That is: Most important to know before answering this question. If it's GMO canola, peanut, or vegetable oil, STOP! If you are using virgin, cold pressed olive oil and sauteing at low temp, that is okay! Raw, virgin coconut oil is better to put on after cooking. If the veges are browning, then that is almost frying, as you are forming acrylamides (browning) on your food and should be careful. Hope this helps. ...Read more
