It's like a sharp cramp feeling on the left side above my ear, in a half dollar coin sized area, doesn't last long and is random but getting it in the same spot for the past week. I do have a cold, could that be the cause?

Could be Rhinitis: Allergic rhinitis presents with a variety of symptoms including nasal congestion, running, ear fullness, itching (eyes and nose), and post-nasal drip that can resemble a cold. If you get "colds" every spring could be secondary to tree pollen (out now). Increased swelling and inflammation in sinuses can refer to ear and cause fullness/pain. Trapezius spasm: It inserts at the base of the skull and goes down to both shoulders and middle of your back. You probably aggravated it during sleep when your neck was turned to one side for a long period. You could try some ibuprofen, used as directed and see your physician for a work up because it could also be reflex muscle spasm from nerve compression in the neck. ...Read more

Amoxicillin Allergy?: Amoxicillin is #1 drug for simple ear infection. For recurrent, more frequent, complicated ear infections, stronger antibiotics are prescribed. Amoxicillin is palatable, kids like to take. Side effects can be some diarrhea, abdominal discomfort. If severe diarrhea, bad cramps, or any rash, you need to stop, call pediatrician's office.
