What is the difference between uti's & early pregnancy symptoms?

What is the difference between uti's & early pregnancy symptoms?

Quite a bit...: Uti: increase frequency, urgency, and burning on urination, even at night. Possible change in odor and color of urine. Maybe some incontinence of urine as well. Early pregnancy: many women feel nothing except missing period. Some have morning nausea, tender/swollen breasts, increase urination but no burning, and food aversion/cravings etc... Check a hpt. Check with doc. Good luck.

What are the best ways to truly prevent UTI during pregnancy? Thanks.

What are the best ways to truly prevent UTI during pregnancy? Thanks.

Hydrate, Probiotics: Staying well hydrated is a simple way to decrease the frequency of urinary infections. A probiotic supplement, supplying "healthy" bacteria, may help restore balance to the bacterial population in the intestine, and has the added benefit of reducing yeast infections. Yogurt is a good example of a probiotic, also supplying a calcium source. Cranberry tablets have protective benefits, too.

No: A UTI will not affect the results of a pregnancy test. The pregnancy test checks for the hormone HCG and a urinary tract infection would have no effect on whether or not your body is producing hcg.

Uti in pregnancy, no symptoms. Treat or not?

Definitely important: An asymptomatic UTI can easily ascend to the kidneys and result in pyelonephritis. This in turn can induce premature labor resulting in premature birth which in itself can definitely be harmful to the baby. So definitely treat.
