I'm having bad knee pain. Would wrapping it with an ACE bandage work or something more serious. My knee pain is: feels like its gonna give out; pain?

Start with RICE: I'm sorry to hear of your discomfort. Did you injury your knee? Regardless, I recommend you start with rice, and the "c" can be accomplished with the ace bandage you mentioned. With the sensation that your knee is going to "give out" you should plan to see an orthopedist, especially if it does not get better soon. You may need bracing, an injection, pt, or surgery depending on severity of injury.

Mgt: A small amount that did not cause respiratory problems should not be a problem. Observe her breathing and if any problems occur, please see the ED.

Is it possible for you to lose belly fat by wrapping an ACE bandage around your stomach?

Is it possible for you to lose belly fat by wrapping an ACE bandage around your stomach?

NO - This will not: Work. Spot fat loss does not occur naturally. By losing weight in general a certain amt will be abdominal fat. Eat healthfully ; be physically active. Calories burned must > calories consumed. To tighten ab's do crunches, reverse crunches, exercise ball crunches, pelvic thrusts, lying leg raises, side bridge ; “bicycling” exercise on your back. Get regular aerobic exercise.

Will wrapping rash with Saran wrap heal rash?

Will wrapping rash with Saran wrap heal rash?

Maybe: Wrapping a rash could help or make it worse. If you are putting a cream on a rash, then wrapping it in plastic wrap can help drive the cream into the skin. Other rashes can become worse with increase of moisture and heat from the wrapping.

I have intense pain in the area underneath my lower right rib cage wrapping around to the back same spot?

I have intense pain in the area underneath my lower right rib cage wrapping around to the back same spot?

Not interpretable: You have not mentioned the duration of symptoms. Shingles can present like this before rashes appear. Referred pain from the spine or a pinched nerve in the back or rib cage can also cause such pain. You need to see your pcp urgently.

I've seen many people close their gaps by just wrapping small rubber bands around their teeth. Is that safe to do?

I've seen many people close their gaps by just wrapping small rubber bands around their teeth. Is that safe to do?

Very dangerous: First that's only a temporary solution, gap will eventually reopen. Second, if you close gap in middle you open 2 smaller gaps on either side. Third, if rubber band slips under gum line it will cause loss of attachment and teeth will fall out. You need professional care to do this properly. Your friends should see their Dentists immediately to check integrity of the Gingival Attachment.

I have acute lymphadema in my right leg, what can I do other than wrapping to bring the swelling down some days the discomfort is unbearable?

I have acute lymphadema in my right leg, what can I do other than wrapping to bring the swelling down some days the discomfort is unbearable?

Options for treatmen: First and foremost, make sure it is lymphedema. If you do not have sharp cutoffs and lobulations but simple pitting swelling that affects the entire foot and leg, it is not lymphedema. The wrong treatment will hurt. Get to a wound care specialist that knows the disease. Treatments can include different types of wraps, pumps, lymphatic massage, etc. No diuretics or antibiotics.

I fell down on Tuesday and injured my lower rib cage on the right and it's wrapping around to my lower back, also hurts slightly when I take a deep br?

Rib Cage Injury: It is common for such injuries to take a while to heal. The rib cage is in continuous movement with the breathing and that might cause longer period of healing time. I would advise simple pain killers for the pain, but if it gets worse or you start feeling unwell you might need your doctor to assess the injury and rule out underlying organ injuries like the liver or the lung as examples.

I sliced my finger with a mandolin and went to the er and they wrapped with gauze. Still bleeding after 2 days when I remove wrapping - that normal?

I sliced my finger with a mandolin and went to the er and they wrapped with gauze. Still bleeding after 2 days when I remove wrapping - that normal?

Should not still be: bleeding 2 days later. Really hard to gage this without seeing it. Perhaps it should have had stitches, but that is impossible to say without an exam. But even a cut deep enough to have stitches should stop actively bleeding after 2days. On the other hand a drop or two of blood on the dressing is not unexpected. It all depends on how much blood there is, which again needs to be seen visually

Does wrapping an ACE bandage or Saran wrap around your waist really work?

Does wrapping an ACE bandage or Saran wrap around your waist really work?

Not Really....: Wrapping yourself in saran wrap isn't the best ideal to lose weight. The occlusion of the skin increases temperature, causes more sweating and forces you to lose water weight. The problem is you have to replace the fluids from the sweating, so it has a 0 net effect. You are better off at the gym exercising at your elevated zone for 30+ minutes and watching your diet.

Ftm. Is there any way to prevent the umbilical cord from wrapping around the baby?

Ftm. Is there any way to prevent the umbilical cord from wrapping around the baby?

Usually benign event: Around 12 wks the fetus has relatively more fluid space/size & may flip & tangle in the cord. I have had a child with 5 wraps about the neck who grew up & graduated a couple years ago (cord lengthened to 9 ft before birth). There is no way to prevent it. There is no guarantee that a baby doesn't trap the cord under their shoulder or leg and pinch it for a time.
