Checking Kidney: Function? 51Cr-EDTA clearance provides an accurate and objective measurement of the GFR, and it can be used to quantify renal function deterioration. Maybe that suggests how pain medication can be cleared from your body. So if your kidney is not functioning well, you are having a build up of metabolites causing side effects. Speak with your doctor who ordered the tests for more info. ...Read more

Is edta safe and without side effects? I hear it's good for clearing the arteries. I am 62 years, have rheumatoid arthritis and osteo arthritis.
Controversial: Currently the one accepted indication for edta chelation is for lead and other heavy metal toxicity. It is a very controversial treatment for other conditions including coronary artery disease. Most mainstream medical organizations do not advise this treatment. Organizations like acam which is an alternative medicine organization advocate its use. I do not recommend this myself. ...Read more

Binds lead: EDTA binds lead and removes it from the body. This is accomplished by a process called chelation whereby the EDTA forms a number of bonds with a lead or other metal atom, carrying it out of the body as the EDTA is excreted. ...Read more

No: Chelation therapy (edta) has never been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease or prevent cholesterol deposits. Coronary stents are used to treat blocked arteries. Aspirin and Plavix (clopidogrel) are used to prevent the stent from clotting. The only treatments that have been shown to reduce the risk of coronary events are statins (cholesterol meds) and aspirin. ...Read more
Not recommended: There is no medical evidence that taking edta is useful for any cardiovascular disease. It should be used only under medical supervision for problems of heavy metal overload or poisoning. ...Read more
Not self inj.: The most common side effect is a burning sensation at the site where the edta is delivered into the vein. Rare side effects can include fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Even more rare are serious and potentially fatal side effects that can include heart failure, a sudden drop in blood pressure, abnormally low calcium levels in the blood, permanent kidney damage, and bone marrow depression. ...Read more
I heard about edta chelation therapy, but the american medical association doesn't support it. Why?
Mineral depletion: Chelation therapy wipes out both good and bad stuff in body - if you are doing chelation it is recommended u do 3 day oral chelation captomer, lipoic acid, glutathione - captomer cleans, lipoic acid removes oxidative stress, glutathione provides energy for liver - this should be followed by 27 day high mineral +vitamin + energy for cells so both go hand in hand. ...Read more

How effective are "detoxamine edta suppositories" as chelation therapy for removing heavy metals and plaque from the blood?
Effective for metals: More research is needed but there is evidence that detoxamin suppositories can help remove heavy metals; whether they remove plaque is still to be determined but removing lead should lead to plaque reduction. Oral edta is only about 5% absorbed. Research has shown detoxamin is about 35% absorbed but stays in the body a much longer time than IV edta. Please see my comment for more information. ...Read more

Edta can cause abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, low blood pressure, skin problems, and fever. It can also cause kidney damage, dangerously low calcium levels, low potassium and magnesium levels, and even death. You should seriously discuss any planned use (s) with your nephrologist. ...Read more
