Td: Most people don’t have problems with the Td Vaccine (Adult Tetanus & Dipehteria). According to the CDC - 8 in 10 people have pain at injection site, there is mild fever in 1 out of 5, redness or swelling at injection site in 1/3rd. Right after injection one could feel dizzy, have ringing in ears or faint. There might be shoulder pain in affected arm. Severe allergic reactions are estimated to occ ...Read more
Usually every 10 yrs: After the initial childhood series, a td (tetanus and diphtheria) booster is recommended every 10 yrs. If there is a significant wound, a booster is recommended if it has been 5 or more years since the last one. Also, one of the boosters is recommended in the form of a tdap (with an "acellular pertussis" or whooping cough component). Not like Flu can!: Typically, the most you'll get is a little soreness at the site of the shot. Low fever, mild rash, or a little "yucky" feeling for a day or so may happen, but flu shots can not give you the flu. Period. It's a dead vaccine and can't cause the flu. The risk of getting the sick and getting bad complications is sooo much higher with the flu compared to any form of the vaccine. No comparison. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Protection wears off: The protection provided by a tetanus shot usually provides ample levels of circulating antibody protection for up to ten years. After that point it fades & the person may develop tetanus if exposed. Up until six years ago, there wasn't a pertussis containing vaccine in the usa recommended for adults. The cdc recommends that all adults through age 64 get a single pertussis containing vaccine (tdap) (includes tetanus and diphtheria). It's also given to those over 65 in contact with infants. ...Read more

More would weaken strength for individual strains. If you get the shot every year (I do) you increase your chances for it to work ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Vaccinations: Typically the shot itself doesn't hurt much. Certain vaccinations may be more uncomfortable than others in the day or so following. I know that from personal experience, tetanus shots make my shoulder sore for the next several days. The benefit of vaccination definitely outweighs the risk of discomfort after the shot. ...Read more
Depends: If you can't remember it is likely 10 years since your last shot. If activities like gardening expose you to spores you should consider a booster even sooner. If your life ever brings you in contact with infants, you should consider the tdap which adds coverage for pertussis, which adults can get even if immunized as babies. This would prevent you from passing it to a baby. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
