As infant, my son had reaction to dpt, so was given only dt. Now 28, he is told he can't have tetanus shot bcause it will contain pertussis. True?

Possibly.: This depends on what his reaction to the DPT was.If it was a mild reaction, further DPT's may not have been given. Recommendations have changed, though,so if it was a mild reaction,a Tdap may be safe for him now. Also, the pertussis portion of the Tdap is different from the pertussis portion of the DPT given to him as an infant. He may want to consider getting an infectious disease specialist consult. ...Read more

Does a Tetanus shot still help within 72 hours? waiting for husband who is on a fire;no one can pick me up til tomorrow.I Have a baby w me need advice

Probably : Good wound cleaning as soon as possible after the injury helps prevent a wound infection by any germ with or without tetanus spores that may be there. If you've had the primary series and your last booster was within 10 years, the shot is optional but a good decision because you can boost your protection for another decade. We advise a needed booster within 48 hr, but an extra day is OK. ...Read more

Skin abrasion: Ok to do local wound care with gentle soap and water cleansing for now and possibly apply an antibiotic ointment. Tetanus shot should not be needed, especially if your baby got routine vaccinations at two months. Take your baby to his/her doctor if the area becomes red, swollen or develops a discharge. ...Read more

Can going on walks while 35 weeks pregnant cause uterine tetany and deprive the baby of oxygen?

Can going on walks while 35 weeks pregnant cause uterine tetany and deprive the baby of oxygen?

No.: Uterine tetany is usually related to Oxytocin administered to augment labor after labor induction. This must be done in the hospital where they can administer Magnesium sulfate to reverse it, if needed, and monitor the well-being of the baby. Abruptio placentae and other rare metabolic conditions. There have been ruled out already, I presume. Actually walking will increase blood flow. ...Read more
