Disease or Vaccine: Only way you can have positive antibodies in your blood is if you have received the vaccines and other way is if you have had the infection in the past By getting the vaccine your body produces the antibodies which protects you against the infection if you are exposed to it I will advice get the shot. But you are 34.you might have had MMR in childhood. Get your blodd checked. Get your tdap every10yrs

Tetanus recommended: Tetanus is possible if the soil or dirt contains tetanus toxin. Not common but possible and very deadly. You should definitely have a Tetanus update given the dates. A booster at this time, even without exposure would be ideal based on current recommendations, if no contraindication Tdap - Tetanus with Pertussis (for adults) would be best. This would protect you from Tetanus and whooping cough.

On remicade, (infliximab) lab tests show low pneumonia, diphtheria, and tetanus antibodies? Should I do anything or be concerned?

On remicade, (infliximab) lab tests show low pneumonia, diphtheria, and tetanus antibodies? Should I do anything or be concerned?

Observation: Remicade (infliximab) can have some immune suppressing properties and your physicians might have a lower threshold for treating infections. Let them know of any symptoms that might be due to infection so they can initiate antibiotic treatment appropriately.

I cut my finger soup can lid this am, taking out trash. Cleaned, iodine, baggage with antibiotic. Not sure when last tetanus shot do I need one now?

I cut my finger soup can lid this am, taking out trash. Cleaned, iodine, baggage with antibiotic. Not sure when last tetanus shot do I need one now?

Maybe, maybe not: Any wound that opens the skin can allow tetanus spores access to create an infection. A rusty nail is a classic exposure but any cut could be a source. Good cleaning and care can help. If you can't remember receiving a booster within the past 10 years it is a good idea to get one.

Depends: A tetanus vaccine lasts for several years. Antibiotics may or not be needed, depending on the type and site of the injury.

Just had to get 2 stitches by eyebrow. Fixing wheelchair when piece came off and hit eye. Have antibiotic just on casedo indeed a tetanus shot?

Depends: If you have not had one in ten years it is a good idea. The wound itself is lower risk than those dealing with gardening or yard work but tetanus spores can be in dust all around us. Getting one now would give you now + 10 years not to worry about it.

I cut my foot on a rusty rod and used peroxide on the cut later that night. If I keep using peroxide, antibiotic ointment, &band aids, can I get Tetanus?

I cut my foot on a rusty rod and used peroxide on the cut later that night. If I keep using peroxide, antibiotic ointment, &band aids, can I get Tetanus?

Maybe, maybe not: It only takes an opening in the skin and a few tetanus spores to begin the infectious process that may lead to tetanus. Your work to clean and sanitize the area is a great first step, and may protect you. However, tetanus is quite nasty and a simple booster provides protection for 10 years. If you can't remember your last tetanus shot, get one. You mav have received one around 10-12 years of age.

How does tetanus spread?

Dirty wound: Tetanus spores exist in the dirt worldwide. A wound in dirty skin or touched by contaminate fingers can transfer spores to the wound that then germinate. The germs produce a toxin as they grow that gets in the blood to produce tetanus. Tetanus is not spread person to person.

Should I be worried about tetanus?

Tetanus: You shouldn't worry, especially if you've had your tetanus boosters every 5-10 years. If you haven't received it, get it for the tetanus coverage, but more importantly for pertussis (whooping cough) coverage.

How difficult is it to catch tetanus?

It is everywhere: You can contract tetanus from a simple cut or scratch if you are not immunized. Tetanus germs are in the soil everywhere and therefore in dust deposits. The only reason that the infection is not more common is because most people in developed countries are immunized against tetanus.
