Mom has jaundice w elevated liver enzymes, and elevated amylase and lipase. Ct w contrast was done, no tumors seen. Could this be pancreatic cancer?

It is unclear: Hi kitten40047. The jaundice and elevated enzymes are concerning. It is reassuring to hear that the ct was negative. There may be other reasons for her symptoms. However, in the absence of any other explanation for the symptoms she has, you may want to have mom undergo additional tests, including perhaps MRI or endoscopy, which may shed more light on the pancreatic and liver areas. ...Read more

QUESTION FOR HEPATOLOGISTS: Could two Fibroscans and 3 ultrasounds miss advanced liver cirrhosis? Biopsy is out of the question

Reasonable test: If biopsy if unreasonable, the a fibroscan is a reasonable alternative. It is quite specific, meaning that if you are low value/result that it's unlikely that you have advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis, the actual percentage or specificity value, depends on your cut off point. So if you provide your specific results docs here may be better able to guide you. ...Read more

What can cause fluctuation in lipase serum from asymptomatic person? MRCP, CT scans, autoimmune, celiac all neg. EUS recommend? Lipase elevation found incidentally 4 yrs ago. Test ED over 10x @ labs

Serum lipase : Elevations in serum lipase can be caused by medication, intermittent gall bladder obstruction or slow emptying of the gall bladder, alcohol excess, pregnancy, testosterone or steroid therapies. Asymptomatic pancreatitis also causes elevations of lipase and amylase. I would have your clinician review all of your medications, and your cholesterol and triglyceride levels which can elevate lipase. ...Read more

Can anything be done to cure advance liver cancer patient after jaundice and ascites sets in.Tumor is large(NV upto 15-16 cm) & liver size is 21 cm.

Treatment: The treatment for this depends on the type of cancer (hepatoblastoma and hepatocarcinoma are most common) and whether or not the tumor has spread (metastasized) to other areas. Late stage disease is usually not curable, but there may be treatment to reduce the size of the tumor and control symptoms for some time. This is best cared for by a pediatric oncologist. ...Read more

Hcc stage 4, portal vein thrombosis and vascular participation AFP 70 GGT 350, age 80, no treatment is done. No physical symptoms. Prognosis?

Many factors: PVT and and age alone does not indicate prognosis. Child's score, performance status and the BCLC scoring system can help determine this. A multi-disciplinary team should review.
